Is everyone just modding their Wiis to play this?
Never looked into it, though I've modded consoles in the past. Is it a pain at all? There haven't been any other games for the Wii in forever and the only one I'm looking forward to is Skyward Sword, so I might as well have a crack at this to see what Xenoblade is all about.

I'd already modded my Wii for brawl, so it wasn't that big a deal for me.
However I actually did buy the disc for this (I had to support Takahashi <3) so the only modding I had to do was something to disable region locks, lol

Nintendo of America is intentionally not releasing Xenoblade (arguably the Wii's best game) in the United States is idiocy on their part, the end. Did you like Demon's Souls? Because it's the exact same thing, but with a metroid style interconnecting open world instead of the stage by stage format of the original. Normal enemies a tougher, bosses are easier, there's checkpoints now. The crafting system seems a lot more streamlined that before and the new conveant system gives invading and summoning other players more interesting.

also no story relation to Demon's Souls The only thing the two share is that there's one NPC who's in both games.

instead of having to find a ton of crafting materials, most of them can be bought in shops (the big one's not until the end of the game though).

Although there's 4 different blacksmiths now instead of 2 and each one specializes in different elements. LIke one only does standard weapons, divine weapons and raw weapons while another does magic weapons and another does fire and chaos weapons etc

progression of weapons and armor is get it to +5 with normal crafting, then you take it to the blacksmith the element you want to ascend it to, then you just continue to max it out with the crafting items. All of them just go to +10 except for standard weapons, which go to +15. Unique Weapons and Dragon Weapons just go to +5 and that's it

Ulti, your hatred of Nintendo and the Wii these days is way too belligerent, regardless of how accurate and/or valid your base claims may or may not be.

And this is coming from someone who hasn't even bothered to keep his Wii plugged in for over half a year, and is probably skipping the first console Zelda game since getting LttP.

Not that anything would have stopped me from importing Xenoblade if it didn't come out here. Even if it didn't make it out of Japan. It's too good to miss.

Of course, I maintain it's still pretty silly to hate on a company that much because they didn't release one game, however good. I don't hate Square forever because they didn't release Chrono Trigger (among others) here for over a decade, for instance.

NCL has ultimate authority on this, NoA has stated on numerous occasions that they do not have autonomy. xenoblade isn't out here because nintendo doesn't want it to be.

Not wanting to mod my Wii is a pretty good excuse.

not wanting to pay extra to import it is also a good reason, nintendo decided they didn't want my money, why should I go even further out of my way to throw it at them?

It really doesn't cost any more to import than it would if it came out here.

There is no evidence for this in this case. NoA themselves, however, have discussed their plans for the game, and what it would take for them to release it. It wouldn't really make sense for that to be secondhand.
