This episode was just the absolute embodiment of Stan as a character, which made it so good. It was like everything we learned about Stan and his family put together into one half an hour, and it was glorious.

FG mostly for the mushroom trip and Meg pwning her family.

I hate the Family Guy episodes where they try to be serious and it ends up being incredibly contrived and stupid. Like the Brian and Stewie in the bank vault episode and the episode where Joe's wife wants to leave him. This episode suffered from everything going right back with the stupid idea that Meg should continue to take abuse because her family needs her to and that they all immediately believe when she says that it was her fault. I know the family is full of morons, but they tried to make a touching and meaningful moment out of it and it's just dumb and has no impact.

Yeah I was annoyed it went back to status quo at the end. Would have been cool if Meg just went "yknow what **** them" and stuck to what she said and have the family sort it out themselves.

Totally agree, FG has been terrible but it works best when it's just rapid fire jokes.

Family Guy almost had a 10/10 episode. They were SO CLOSE.

The family stuck inside the house and forced to actually deal with each other as a unit. The episodes with all of the family together are always the best because they get to see just how dysfunctional they are as a unit.

These episodes are always my favorite ones. And after years and years of getting crapped on, Meg finally fires back. I was in awe. I cringed; like I was getting yelled at myself. And right as I thought Family Guy had finally put together a flawless episode...

See, at least American Dad can still do serious stuff, but even when they do serious stuff, they aren't trying to be super serious about it still. And each time it seems like Stan is going to change, it's always explained.

Like Stan? Listen to reason and finally quit causing more disaster for everyone? Hell no, he needs to be Nick Cage. And it's presented in hilarity, because they never want them to be taken seriously.

But Family Guy has this thing where they want to be taken seriously some of the time. Another example is the one where we learn that Lois is in a porno, and they do this super serious thing where she stampedes the church and shows the porno to everyone and gives this serious speech about how she should be treated. The joke that she's showing a porno in a church isn't funny at all, it's just annoyingly serious because nobody stops to say this is stupid. They treat it like it was a reasonable thing to do after context is provided in this speech. This is especially dumb because Lois is supposed to be the one of the smarter ones in the family.

I dunno, I find all of their "serious" episodes extremely pretentious because they like to pretend like their characters have depth.
