Never in my life have there been two amazingly awesome games released within two weeks of each other. My body almost can't handle it.

GotY contenders:
Dark Souls
Uncharted 3
Batman: Arkham City

I don't really think there is anything else that could even come close.

Dark Souls, meh.

Arkham City and Uncharted 3 definitely are untouched, but Sonic Generations will be good too.

Duke Nukem Forever is GOTY for this guy, I know I know, always bet on Duke. Rage is also really solid, and I loved Dragon Age II and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Saints Row: The Third, King of Fighters XIII, and new Zelda stuff will be good.

Drop Uncharted and add Saints Row 3, AC: Revelations, and Deus Ex and you have what will probably be my top five of the year.

Only dropping Uncharted because I have yet to play the first two so I can't really pick it.

Portal 2 is also pretty high up there for me.

Skyward Sword also has a shot.

Those two, Batman, Dark Souls, and either Assassin's Creed or Uncharted would be my top five picks.

The general consensus top 10 for the year will probably be something like:

Skyrim
Arkham City
Dark Souls
Portal 2
Skyward Sword
Uncharted 3
Assassin's Creed: Revelations
L.A. Noire
Battlefield 3
Gears of War 3

In no particular order.

That's because it's the second GotY, like I said in the first post!

Arkham City will still be better. But not by a lot.

And no other game mentioned in this topic deserves the title as much as these two games. Skyward Sword might be great, but the motion controls will hold it back. Revelations is just another Assassin's Creed, nothing to see there, Portal 2 was amazing and will still probably be in the top 5 at least... Everything else is meh.

Except people apparently loved Oblivion. So they'll love Skyrim even more. Honestly it does look pretty, but I've tried Oblivion and it bores me, I just don't care for it much at all.

What's sad is people thinking AC: Revelations will be even close to contender for GotY. It's almost exactly the same game as the previous two still.

People having different opinion than you is sad? Revelations looks great, I don't know what your beef with the AC series is. Sure it'll be similar to the previous two but I'm fine with that. It seems they've added plenty of new features and the multiplayer is great. I mean, Arkham City is gonna be pretty similar to Arkham Asylum with a bunch of new features added in, so it's a similar concept.

Agree with you on Oblivion, though. Just could not get into that game.

Yeah...no. I'll end up playing through Arkham City 2-3 times within the next six months alone, and I'll probably pick it back up and play it once a year or so after that. Add in the replay value of the challenge rooms (some people may dismiss them, I love them) and you've got a lot of content. Maybe not quite the length of Dark Souls but some people might think that 80 hours is just a tad too long.

Dark Souls is definitely top 5 for me but my favorites will probably still win out over it.

I've played through Uncharted 2 four times, spent 20 hours on co-op, and probably another 200 hours on multiplayer. Uncharted games are well-crafted, rewarding experiences that do not end once the single player is finished.

I've played through Arkham Asylum at least 7 times by now, it's absurd to think I will only be satisfied with one playthrough of Arkham City. Plus there's a whole lot of stuff to do besides the main story, it'll probably be more than 15 hours if you do everything.

Uncharted 3 will also have a lot of replayability, I'm sure. And it's also got fantastic multiplayer to keep us busy for a loooooong time. This is really the only multiplayer I've ever been so engrossed in.

From: Murphiroth | #020

Well Arkham City is actually almost a new game. It builds on Arkham Asylum, yeah, but the transition from AA to AC is like the transition from Assassin's Creed 1 to 2, which was vast, except this time it's even way better than that. I didn't care for Assassin's Creed II that much, and Brotherhood was pretty much the same game, and Revelations will probably be as well. And I just don't think a new game in a series deserves to contend for GotY if it's practically the same game as before with a few added abilities and such. But you're right! It is indeed an opinion, and I'm sorry. I just have trouble imagining someone liking that more than Arkham City or Uncharted 3.

I dunno, I think the jump between AA and AA is more like ACII to Brotherhood. Assassin's Creed to Assassin's Creed II was a vast improvement because the first game was so mediocre. Arkham City is building off of an excellent game just like Brotherhood did. Though we've not actually played Arkham City or Revelations so we can't judge it accurately quite yet...

As for Uncharted, I don't have a PS3, so I haven't played any of the games. They look good, so I'm sure I'll play them eventually.

Man, I dunno guys. I can't imagine playing Arkham Asylum ever again, I assume the same would hold true for Arkham City. I just don't see any drive to replay a game that does not change or alter itself in any way for a second playthrough. If you're into Uncharted's multiplayer, well then that's different I suppose. But Uncharted, also, I could never imagine touching more than once, no matter how much I like it. I sold Uncharted 2 and Arkham Asylum shortly after beating them with no regret, even though I loved them both.

Nah, Arkham Asylum was already a great game, but it's clear that Rocksteady really tried to do their best in order to make the sequel better in almost every way imaginable. I don't know if they succeeded yet, because I haven't played it, I can only hope, but I honestly think it'll be a vast improvement, which is saying a hell of a lot, since we already had an amazing game to start with. Brotherhood was just Assassin's Creed II with a few additions, nothing much.

Exactly, quality > quantity, as always. Which means Arkham City and Uncharted 3 will be sooooo much better than either of those games, because they both have a thousand times more quality.

More like 500 hours of great game with near infinite possibilities > 80 hours of good game with inherent limited possibilities.
