Does it not bother you that you will be surrendering a good part of your life for the next couple of months? My friend is trying to talk me into getting the game, and I'm sure it's a great game but I just don't think it's a good move.
Sometimes the best games are games that absolutely will claim all of your free time and possibly ruin your social life. See: WoW. I have no doubts in my mind it's a fantastic game, but I prefer friends, family, sports and getting some. So I NEVER ONCE played it to avoid, what I know would have, become a terrible addiction.
Don't cave and don't get the game. You're a gamer, it's gonna be a damn good game, and it's one of those games that you pump terrible amounts of hours into. Be smart, don't cave.

that's just the thing though, a game this good will end up being one of those games you aren't satisfied enough with just the main quest and get hooked into
If it's a game you're interested in playing, get it and play it while exercising some self-control. Unless you have some kind of timeline in which you have to finish the game, It's not like you need to dedicate massive amounts of time to it.

TES games are essentially a MMO except without other people, it's not really that interesting for very long. then again I don't really see how anyone gets addicted to any single player games these days, maybe it's just because I'm competitively driven but pretty much every game I've spent those kinds of hours on in the past decade has been multiplayer.

pretty obvious if you ask me

most gamers I've met... TERRIBLE self control. And by gamers I don't mean my friends who play fifa, and the occasional shooter although CoD freaks really get hooked too.
I mean guys around here or my nerdier friends. And once in the past, like when I was 18 I got so hooked on an mmo. The day I quit it I actually began having friends so yea, my point stands.
I am getting it...and this doesn't bother me because I didn't have this problem with oblivion. Honestly, most of my time management problems come from spending time with people in person, I only really touch my games when I have nothing to do.

I don't understand this topic. You're basically saying that...because a game is so good you want to spend lots of time playing it, you shouldn't get it?
