I'd expect them to be high energy, but they're typically calm and peaceful.

They are also very susceptible to arthritis. Great dogs though, all the ones I've met have been friendly.

Same, though I've never met a single dog that wasn't friendly towards me, like my cousin once had a dog that supposedly was aggresive as hell towards men, he didn't do anything when I came to pet him.

Maybe it's because of my attitude towards them, I love dogs and even if you tell me it has a bad temper I still won't be scared of it.

We once fostered a golden that, while not agressive, was not comfortable with men generally, but she got used to me and warmed up fairly quickly.

I miss that dog. Adopting her out was so hard ;_;

I love all kind of dogs, the one I have atm is a Bolognese Bichon, it's awesome.

He's 14 now though and he's getting old, but he still runs around alot and still loves to play, so hopefully he'll live to a ripe old age.

Depends on the breed and dog.

Dachsunds can be hit or miss as far as personalities go. Some are sweet, some are absolute ****s. I love Corgis, but if I were to go for a big dog I would go for a Greyhound.

Glorious Newfoundland-riding house-having master race

Gander was a Newfoundland dog posthumously awarded the Dickin Medal, the "animals' VC", in 2000 for his deeds in World War II,[1] the first such award in over 50 years.[2]
[edit] Military service

Gander, initially a family pet named Pal, accidentally scratched a child's face with his paw. Worried that he would be forced to have Pal put down, the original owner gave the large dog to the Royal Rifles, a regiment of the Canadian Army stationed at Gander International Airport, Newfoundland and Labrador. The soldiers quickly renamed him Gander and "promoted" him to sergeant. When the unit was shipped to Hong Kong in the fall of 1941, Gander went along.

The Battle of Hong Kong began on December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Gander helped fight the Japanese invaders on three occasions. The last time, Gander picked up a thrown Japanese hand grenade and rushed with it toward the enemy, dying in the ensuing explosion, but saving the lives of several wounded Canadian soldiers.[3]

I guess I've been pretty lucky then, four dachshunds and all of them have been/are very friendly. The dachshund/chihuahua mix one is super hyper though.

Anything with Chihuahua will be super hyper lol.

And yeah, with good training and surroundings, the worst of their attitudes can be tempered, but naturally they kind of go both ways.

this topic has made me want an old english sheep dog.

my house will contain two cats, and two dogs.

I need to decide if I want a chocolate lab or a welsh corgi now. chocolate labs are amazing but two big dogs in the same house is often frustrating.

This dog deserves more posthumous medals.

Love all dogs, I've got a couple of mutts at the moment, a Rottweiler/Black Lab and a Boxer/Terrier. Usually pick them up at the shelters, though the rott/lab Gordon I raise from a pup.

Can't go wrong with a dog.
