By discovered, I mean I've finally decided to listen to their first three albums. I've loved the tracks Juicebox and Reptilia and to a lesser extent Last Night since 2007 and I just never felt the urge to dig deeper.
I've been listening to their first three albums for basically the entire week, and I think they're all ****ing great. If I had to rank them I'd probably say First Impressions>Is This It?>Room on Fire.. but I do really like all of them.
I'm a little apprehensive to listen to their newest album, as I'm afraid I won't like it as much, but I'll probably pick it up sometime in the next week.
Any thoughts or opinions on the band? Other groups I should check out? Rankings of their albums? It's been a while since I've listened to anything outside of electronic genres and I wouldn't mind listening to some similar bands.
I discovered The Strokes back in sixth grade. It wasn't so much strokes so much as rubs at the time, but you know what I mean. I think it was health class talking about wet dreams that did it to me. Such a weird experience.
Their first three albums range from good (First Impressions and Room on Fire) to top tier material (Is This It). Don't like the new one bar a few songs.
From: colliding | #009 Really? First Impressions is your favorite? It has a few good tracks, but the second half is really bad, imo.
Is This It>Room on Fire>First Impressions of Earth >Angles (really poor effort)
The second half is weak, I'll give you that. But again, I've basically been listening to all three on repeat for the week... It's a little hard to separate the tracks at the moment, and all I know for sure is that first half of First Impressions is my favourite stretch on any album. Is This It might actually be the best from top to bottom though... Need more listens.
Strokes are my favorite band, I would agree with your rankings too: First Impressions > This Is It > Room on Fire. I like First Impressions because it has so many of my favorite songs, even if there are some lame one later. This Is It is pretty much perfect throughout, but I like some tracks in First Impressions so much. But I think in my top 5 of their songs, there's songs from every album, so it doesn't really matter.
They're new album is distinctly bad, except for like 1 or 2 tracks (you'll know it when you hear them).

From: foolm0ron | #013 I would say The Fratellis (Costello Music) and Two Door Cinema Club are kinda similar and good
Ooh thanks. The Fratellis are another group that I've basically just heard a couple of their songs (Flathead and Chelsea Dagger) over the past several years, and never bothered to check out the discography.
