For like a year I kept trying to read it and got at most 30 pages in before going "what the **** is this?".
But last week I went in deep, and 15 hours of reading later, I was a devout follower.
Apparently some 4Chan guys have been mucking up that doodle game every seems to be into, hopefully that doesn't sour you away from trying it out. It's without a doubt the best thing I've ever seen on the internet.
I should probably pick it back up. I stopped in... June? Four months of updates is probably a good chunk.
But then I remember how much 'the wait' sucks and vow to just wait until it's all over.

*sees no new update since the beginning of September*
Nooooooooooooooooooooope. This is exactly why I stopped cold turkey.

Too late

homestuck is great. sadly, some parts of the fanbase go a little bit overboard, but if that's what's keeping you from reading then you're totally missing out.
ltm you should totally read problem sleuth if you haven't yet, it's pretty good too.

Sorry, I've tried to read through the first act several times and have been bored as hell every time. And you can say "but it gets better after that!!" but by that point I've already spent enough time on it that if I'm not hooked I see no reason to continue, I can find something else that will give me more enjoyment in that same amount of time
The s*** fanbase doesn't help either
Problem Sleuth bored me even faster than HS

About the same time I stopped, I think.
Looking forward to it finishing, then re-reading the whole thing from the beginning. I'm sure it won't take me that long to go through a million pages!

Well, I'm sorry you feel that way. For what it's worth, I felt exactly the same way, and now Homestuck is my favorite...anything.
Yeah, I read the first 50ish pages of Homestuck and lost interest. Went back recently and couldn't stop reading. It was pretty much all I did for about four days outside of work. Would've read it at work, but my iPhone can't play the Flash bits.
It seriously is as good as people say it is and some. It just has a very long and slow start to get it going.

suppose I should try it, people recommended it when I made that topic asking for more media involving time travel/oddities but I never got around to it
From: KamikazePotato | #022 I read the first act of Homestuck, got bored, quit.
Came back a year later, continued reading, couldn't stop until I finished.
This really does seem to be pretty common.
Most people I've talked to that are huge fans thought it was absolute **** at first but then for one reason or another came back and found it amazing once they got past the early stuff.

Most of the first act is pretty much ass flavored ass, but once it gets rolling it's pretty god tier.

How do you think it stacks up against Gunnerkrigg? I'm nearly through with homestuck and have to admit, I might be a little more into this than Gunnerkrigg. Gunnerkrigg never made me flip my **** when an event happened ( That Eridan just completely made me lose it. I don't think I've ever say " wtf " so many times outloud in such a short timespan)
Of course I love them both for completely different reasons.
I love Gunnerkrigg in that it's a very good comic, hell, I bought all 3 hardcover volumes! But Homestuck is on an entirely different level, there's no comparison.
And yeah, the Eridan stuff floored me. I was just like "OK, how much longer till the 5th wall page comes up where Andrew Hussie says ' THIS IS STUPID', because NO WAY did that just happen".
Vriskas speech about troll life actually allowed me to come to terms with what happened. But than kanaya became one of my favorite trolls and I stopped worrying about it. but man it had me going for so long.
Man I wish homestuck wasn't so long so when I decide I want to reread it it wont be effing 20 hours out of my week to do it. ( And by the time I decide I'd want to, it'll be even longer)
God is it worth it though. Everyone should definitely read it.
