I think I can get Amazon Prime for $39 a year. To me, the free two-day shipping alone isn't worth it, but it also offers free Amazon streaming. If it's actually good enough to warrant canceling Netflix (which costs $96 a year for streaming), then there's like totally no reason not to get this!

Glad I sold at $265. Granted, I didn't make any money because I bought around there, but it could have been a lot worse. I mean, it's been obvious for at least a year that Netflix the company wasn't really worth as much as the stock, but that's why the 1000% rise was so great- it was a beautiful bubble in an economy that is too disheartened for bubbles.
Well, I'm canceling my Netflix account as soon as I finish Season 3 of Breaking Bad. It wasn't a bad purchase because my family used it, but I think their streaming service is overrated. Almost all the premium movies I'd usually be interested in are mail-only. Instead of this whole Qwikster debacle, I'd have preferred if they just raised prices for the streaming service but made it worth our while by actually offering everything under the sun. I have no idea how many hoops they'd need to jump through to make that work, or even if it's legally obtainable, but tons of people would pay $20 a month for the ability to stream damn near any movie or show they could think of.

I agree, I thought $8 was incredibly low for unlimited streaming.......except that most of what I want to watch isn't available. I think their biggest problem now is competition- when they were the only company doing this, studios had no choice but to offer them good rates which were passed on to consumers, or else miss out on the market. With competitors, it puts the copyright holders back in power.
It's a weird market where a monopoly actually favors the consumer.
I really don't do this often but in this case I have an urge to. Netflix's fall is something I was posting bold predictions over on B8 just a few months ago. I just... can't... resist this so... ack... forgive me...
Called it.

You're spot-on. With competition, the studios just rolled with it. But now that they can take their business elsewhere, Netflix's monopoly has truly crumbled.

I'm still going to keep with Netflix for now; they redeemed themselves a bit in my eyes with how they got all the most recent seasons of Psych, Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, etc. last month. Honestly, with some of the deals I've found though, I'm becoming more and more tempted to just buy all the seasons of these shows formally; not even pirate. Particularly since my laptop can't handle Netflix in HD.
^Amazon's Prime Instant Video. Not a TERRIBLE selection but not as good as Netflix by any means. That is, unless you love documentaries/Ken Burns and/or British comedies in which case jump ship and sign up for Prime now.
