This week yo and I invited on the always-enjoyable Alec and broke down all the most debated matches from the first half of this season's bracket. It was another somewhat shorter episode (by Show standards!) but it's packed with great bracket advice, some laughs, and even a song to pay tribute to the new Contest season. In other words, a can't-miss episode!

I think it has the potential for someone to get a perfect bracket if it turns out as boring as many expect. There are maybe two difficult divisions in the contest, and it's not difficult to conceive that someone could perfect them.

Like everyone else, I would have much preferred Mario and Sonic as a team. Personally, I don't much care if they ever meet in a match, because we've been given tons of indications over the years that the match will be boring and of little significance. And IF they're finally going to meet, doing it in this one-time format cheapens it regardless.

Matches like Mario/Bowser vs Sonic/Robotnik have never been exciting. Arguments for Sonic/Robotnik are pretty much as valid as arguments for Ganondorf > Link.

Is he even better during the night? If DK is as consistent between night/day as this show claimed, I wouldn't be surprised if DK benefits from the night match.
Shouldn't really matter all that much anyway, though.
Like Ryu and Street Fighter, Sub-Zero and Scorpion have always been strong relative to their games, especially Subz. Their combined strength is greater than that of Leon and Ada (Leon is likely the strongest of the four, but Ada is by far the weakest). Throw in the popular theory that the ninjas' rivalry does a lot more for them than Leon/Ada's, and you have a match with a clear favorite. The fact that MK is stronger than Resident Evil during the day makes it even easier.

The 2011 average listed on there was the overall average at the end of September and doesn't count any polls from October, since I only update that page once a month. The average dropped from 56927 to 56342 during this month alone, thanks to almost every poll having less than 56000 votes. But the monthly averages tell the real story here.
January 2011 - 51807 February 2011 - 66434 March 2011 - 65054 April 2011 - 61544 May 2011 - 59478 June 2011 - 54889 July 2011 - 52673 August 2011 - 51078 September 2011 - 50179 October 2011 - 49688 Average for the year - 56342
Only 4 out of the 10 months during this year have average vote totals that are above the average vote totals for the entire year. February through May carried most of the weight for this year, thanks to games like MvC3, Pokemon Black/White, Portal 2, and Mortal Kombat. There haven't been any big releases at all since April and vote totals started to collapse again when we reached June. For reference, we have not had a single poll get above 70000 votes since the poll from May 30th. It's been nearly 5 months since any non-contest poll got above 70000 votes.
Since July, the polls have been struggling just to break 60000 votes. When Game of the Decade started last year, the average vote totals were at 61422 for the 19 non-contest polls during October 2010 before the contest started. Still a lot better than the average vote totals we are seeing right now. Vote totals for Game of the Decade suffered because there was a poor line-up of games near the end of 2010. All of the big 2010 games were in the first half of the year. The games in the 3-way GotY poll were released in the first half of 2010.
2011 has the advantage of a stacked line-up for November to help out those vote totals. Plus, I like to think that Link/Mario does a better job at drawing in votes than Majora's Mask/Brawl. Somewhere between 80000 and 85000 would be a good guess.
