Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses This is a well put together song with decent pacing and a good, if typical voice for the music. Lacks a little bit of extra oomph to push it over the top.
8/10
Panda Riot - Like Flowers At Night Kinda has a neat sound and everything, but some of the vocals just sound so... i dont know lousy or something.
5.0/10
µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself Jason Decent for the first section but then tapers off.
4.5/10
Ulver - Porn Piece Or The Scars Of Cold Kisses I can't really get into these songs. They have some good sounds and everything, but ultimately they are too long for the amount of actual content and the good sections are often too far apart to really be worth it.
4/10
ExtremeMusic - Glorious This song tries really hard to be good and...fails at it in epic fashion.
4/10
UK - Mental Medication Ehh, just really uninspired. Not that being kinda normal is bad, just lacks any real soul.
4/10
Beatrice Eli - The Conqueror Nothing really special. To be honest it's kinda boring, especially for the genre it falls into. She has a good voice, but it's hard to showcase it with the track.
4/10
Mumford & Sons ft. Johnny Flynn - Banjolin Song (live) Some folk is okay, and some is even really good. Not this though. Don't really like the vocals, or Mumford & Sons that much to begin with.
Beatrice Eli - The Conqueror I like this! She has a nice voice and when it comes down to it, she also shows she's got admirable lungs. There's a strange 80's vibe in this song during the louder parts, but the other parts have a totally different atmosphere. I rather enjoy the contrast; it's quite interesting.
Jay-Z - Say Hello Uurrrk, bad YouTube quality is bad. Otherwise really great song, sweet sampling, etc. You know how it goes.
µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself Jason Are you guys allergic to songs shorter than 5 minutes? Oh, well. >_> Just started and I'm finding this totally awesome. Cool stuff.
UK - Mental Medication This was kinda fun. Not much more to say besides the fact it was thoroughly enjoyable, albeit not something I'd go crazy for or anything.
Ulver - Porn Piece Or The Scars Of Cold Kisses Oh boy, 8 minutes. Let's-a go. And then those 8 minutes happened. I'm not sure what to think about this. It was good, don't get me wrong, but... like, I barely listened to it. It was there, but it also wasn't. Interesting for sure, and I have the progression at the beginning stuck in my head, but I don't know. It wasn't very fulfilling.
Q Lazarus - Goodbye Horses When he goes "Goodbye Hooooahsess" it's pretty good. Otherwise, it's an okay song that goes not much of anywhere at all. Basically too flat to absolutely pique my interest, but it's likable and nice background music.
Mumford & Sons ft. Johnny Flynn - Banjolin Song My problem with this band is that their songwriting becomes too predictable after a couple songs. The lyrics are all poetic and stuff, but after a while it becomes bland. The Banjolin part was very alright. I liked Awake My Soul better (might be because it's a song I'm more familiar with), but that totally isn't the point. Mandolins are cool instruments but I'm not sure I like their sound that much when used as some sort of pseudo-acoustic guitar. They work better as back-up.
ExtremeMusic - Glorious oh man it's trying so hard to be epic and not really accomplishing it I listened to this song twice and both times it just went over my head. Like, I know it's not a terrible song or anything, but when you're this forgettable, then I just can't place you higher!
Andy Grammer ~ Keep Your Head Up "This video is not available in your country." augh Thankfully, there are more videos of this song. Seems a little generic. It's uplifting, but just so... generic. The first verse reminds me of Bruno Mars; there's something about the wording that is similar. Now it's cheesy, whoop. Yeah, predictable sound structure as well, but that's okay, really. Just not my cup of tea.
Ulver - Porn Piece Or The Scars Of Cold Kisses This has convinced me to listen to more Ulver. Song of the week. 9/10
Panda Riot - Like Flowers At Night I'm glad we have Surskit on board again. Shoegazey and good. 7.5/10
Jay-Z - Say Hello Not that big a fan of Jay-Z but he has good songs. This is one of them. 7/10
µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself Jason This was pretty enjoyable. 6.5/10
Beatrice Eli - The Conqueror Became too bombastic, but all in all not bad. 6/10
Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses Hey I know this song. It's okay. 6/10
UK - Mental Medication Too wishy washy for my taste and DEFINITELY too proggy. 5/10
ExtremeMusic - Glorious EXTREME. MUSIC. 4/10
Andy Grammer ~ Keep Your Head Up The uploader has not made this video available in your country. I'm just gonna go ahead and give it a 3/10 because it's a Carl song. Now I'll actually look for another link.. Oh my god. So cliche. I was bang on with the 3/10
Mumford & Sons ft. Johnny Flynn - Banjolin Song (live) I am very much a sucker for some Mumford. Dug the French twist.
Jay-Z - Say Hello This is obviously landing very near the top.
Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses I can't place exactly what I like about this one. But it's good.
Beatrice Eli - The Conqueror Eh, not bad I guess.
Panda Riot - Like Flowers At Night This is pretty alright.
µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself Jason Had some cool parts.
Ulver - Porn Piece Or The Scars Of Cold Kisses I enjoyed parts of this, but they were few and far between. You could probably make a solid 2:30 long song out of bits and pieces of this tune.
Andy Grammer - Keep Your Head Up I wanted to click the 'X' two seconds in. Why did Rainn Wilson agree to be in this video...
UK - Mental Medication This is not good prog.
ExtremeMusic - Glorious I liked the first 8 or 9 seconds. Then not so much.
Mumford & Sons ft. Johnny Flynn - Banjolin Song (live) my name is vincent and i rec'd mumford and sons
Beatrice Eli - The Conqueror I am not sure I like the fact that the chorus is one line and then it gradually gets repeated more. She's got a decent voice, but this just didn't do too much for me. Those "woooOOOoooo!" things sounded out of key to me but meh.
Andy Grammer - Keep Your Head Up Not too bad, but uh, I sort of get some Rebecca Black vibes from the video. I really like his voice at least! I think he should do more acoustic stuff. I don't think this specific type of music fits him too well. Also Rainn Wilson on a roof.
Jay-Z - Say Hello Nothing too horrible about it, but nothing too great. It just sorta played and I listened and I didn't really have any specific responses to it. Just completely neutral, I guess.
Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses Because of the picture I was inclined to feel like this was a toned down robot unicorn attack song. I also may be missing some inside joke from some movie this was in because of all the coments. But yeah, felt a little boring to me. It was chill, but not my preferred kind of chill (shut up there are different kinds).
Panda Riot - Like Flowers At Night I didn't like this. I feel like th-BADADADADABADUDADUH. Sorry where was BADADADABUDUHBADUH. Oh my god why won't it st-BADADBUDHUBABUDUH
Ulver - Porn Piece Or The Scars Of Cold Kisses I got bored after a bit, so I went and took a poop, and came back and it was still boring. It got a beat. Still zzzz. The singing is alright, but that doesn't exactly justify the first four minutes of the song being a literal snoozefest.
UK - Mental Medication This fits the description of 'mycro song' perfectly. It also generally means I am not a fan of it, and this is certainly no exception.
µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself Jason The first thing I did here was go and see where Mycro ranked it because it sounded like a Mycro song. Also WHY ARE THE WORST SONGS THE LONGEST except mumford and sons. Also obligatory "people get paid to make this" comment.
Author's Note: STOP RECCING 7+ MINUTE SONGS THAT AREN'T THE BANJOLIN SONG
-- ~Acting on Impulse~ Black Turtle still didn't MAJORA'S MASK
Sorry for the long wait; I should be more prompt now that finals are done.
1. WingedInsignia: µ-Ziq - Brace Yourself Jason This was an easy sotw for me this week. It just had the right sound. 9.2/10
2. Mycro: UK - Mental Medication I'm a sucker for old prog rock, and this one is no exception. It varies enough to hold my interest the entire time. 8.9/10
3. Surskit: Panda Riot - Like Flowers At Night Great rec. This song was very enjoyable. 8.2/10
4. Cokes: Jay-Z - Say Hello Jay-Z can often be the subject of my ire, but in this case he doesn't deserve it. A solid rec. 7.5/10
5. Whakko: Beatrice Eli - The Conqueror This one was pretty good, although it's not something I usually would listen to. 7.4/10
6. KCF: Q Lazzarus - Goodbye Horses I can't say much good about this one. Reminds me of Forever Young >_> 5.7/10
7. Vince: Mumford & Sons ft. Johnny Flynn - Banjolin Song (live) I don't like Mumford & Sons much, and this didn't help at all. It was ok. 5.3/10
8. Carl: Andy Grammer ~ Keep Your Head Up I didn't hate this one, but I didn't like it either. 5.0/10
9. Justin: ExtremeMusic - Glorious This one was bad. The constant vocalizing in the back was definitely the worst part. 3.4/10
