Okay.

I have finally decided, for real this time.

I'm going to play a Wu Jen. I haven't decided what element to specialize in. I will play a Wu Jen/Incantatrix/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil. I am aware that those two PrCs have a reputation for being hilariously overpowered, but I can just not play them to their potential (I'm not good at minmaxing anyway, unless the system is really simple), and hell, I can't find a ton of PrCs that really fit Wu Jen properly anyway (inb4KanzpostslikethreePrCs).

Sorry for the ridiculous delay and number of posts. I'll post a sheet later tonight or tomorrow.

Is this a request or a challenge?

Also, i think the lameness stems from taking OP PrCs. IotSV is stupidly overpowered without any sort of optimization at all. Incantratrix needs more brainpower, but is even lamer if you squeeze anything out of it.

I mean, hell, I've got a nasty PrC trick in my future, but it won't enhance my actual power one whit. It's simply going to give it to me a little earlier so I can chillax with some neato PrC once I have my good stuff. That's powerful, but either of those PrCs is way way way past powerful and deep into full-on easymode.

OK. Options:

-Mage of the Arcane Order. The Spellpool means you get access to Sor/Wiz lists without being a Sor/Wiz. This means the goods while still keeping dat giant size.
-If you're thinking about using Body Outside Body, Jade Phoenix Mage is an amazing fluff fit and gives you tons of cool tricks to pull off.
-On the same vein as JPM, Swiftblade. dat megagishery.
-Sandshaper and Wyrm Wizard. These give you extra spells for your list, like MotAO but through different means.
-Dracolexi and Dragonheart Mage with Elemental Mastery unlocking them for you.
-Any PrC that focuses on a single spell or very small suite of spells.

That should be enough for a start. Personally, my favorite Wu Jen build style is gishery because they are retardedly good at it.

I'm not really interested in non-full progression or gish builds, but Mage of the Arcane Order does interest me, and I might replace Incantatrix with it.

You'd be making a mistake if you're tossing 9/10 PrCs out. Not giving up caster levels is a very smart rule, but rules are meant to be broken, particularly when the net result is positive. The Wu Jen has a limited spell list, expanding it is SUPER useful.

So Sand Shaper. One level of that gives me access to all of the bonus spells for all levels of spellcasting, at the cost of no progression for one level?

EDIT: Wait, wouldn't Mage of the Arcane Order grant access to those spells anyway? Eh.

To be fair, we're stealing a ton from the animes already. Group 2 is half-made of Fire Emblem-styled characters, one of the characters is basically a Solar Exalt, we have an anime spellcaster, and our weight figures are unrealistic. All we're missing is a comic relief character and we're set. :P

Best for an unseelie fey with a smart, subversive streak. Black velvet and the Dancing Lights spell recommended for maximum impact. Will post a better choice tomorrow if this one isn't a good fit, I have a piece with awesome violins spinning around my head that I just can't name.

Yeah, two variants of the same theme, but for a five-in-the-morn pick, I feel wayyyyyyy better about this one. A thief needs to be sneaky, but a noble thief needs to be a Man of Class. So, quiet synthchestra, then.

Restate what you wanted, Kanz?

A) To use Bloodline rules. Since they're so poorly written it's completely impossible to divine them from a casual reading, I found what the rules FAQ had to say and how it's commonly interpreted, here: http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=7167.0

(this isn't houseruling, rather it's clarifying some seriously unreadable mechanics.)

Now, my intent here isn't to use Bloodline rules to break stuff, but to trade off bits of Rei's advancement for some unique powers. My intent is to design a custom bloodline, pitch it to you, and assuming it's accepted, take it at the pertinent levels, gaining the benefits along the way.

B) To use a Weapon of Legacy. That is, to make the Blade of Kings into a weapon that costs me some things (HP, save bonuses, attack bonus), but in exchange gets neat powers. Later on, I might also take levels in Legacy Champion, trading in more HP and some BAB for accelerated advancement and neat Legacy features.

The rules for Bloodlines can be found on the SRD. Weapons of Legacy are found in the book of the same name.

Alright, first the bloodline. Here it comes:

Soul Successor

The blood that runs through your veins is that of an ancient lineage of just rulers and powerful tyrants, mighty warriors and wise scholars. You might be the latest incarnation of your dynasty's founder, or a new hero intent on inscribing your name upon the pages of history. The blood that flows through your veins drives you ever onward, leading you to greater and greater challenges and handing you the tools to overcome them.

Level Major
1 +2 on Diplomacy checks
2 Power Attack
3 Intelligence +1
4 Charm Person 1/day (Sp)
5 Demagogue Affinity +2
6 Bonus Feat*
7 +2 on Spot checks
8 Shape Soulmeld
9 Strength +1
10 Bonus Essentia
11 Demagogue Affinity +4
12 Open Mind (Feat)
13 +2 on Knowledge (History) Checks
14 Heroism 1/day (Sp)
15 Charisma +1
16 Bonus Feat+
17 Demagogue Affinity +6
18 Heroics 1/day (Sp)
19 +2 on Bluff Checks
20 Bonus Feats ><

*Picked from the following list: Cool Head, Freerunner, Sweet Talker, Sure Hand.
+Picked from the following list: Combat Expertise, Reckless Offense.
>< If Good: Nimbus of Light, plus one other feat with the Exalted descriptor that you qualify for. If Evil, Evil Brand plus one other feat with the Vile descriptor you qualify for. If Lawful, Law Devotion. If Chaotic, Chaos Devotion. If Neutral, gain a single feat with the Luck descriptor you qualify for. You may only obtain a single benefit from this effect.

This bloodline was based on the Titan Bloodline, which is by far the best among the official ones and the only one I'd consider taking. It's basically an 'Action Hero' line: you're destined for great things and get larger and larger than life with levels. It doesn't really make you much more powerful - the extra feats and SLAs are nice, but not gamebreaking. I based the abilities around what I'd expect a great hero to do: motivate people (Heroism), sway them (diplomacy and bluff), pull off great stunts (Heroics, Skill Tricks), mythical traits (Soulmeld stuff, since every class can use it), and so on. It does boost the character's power, but considering picking up a bloodline makes you trail in levels, this isn't much of a problem. I do worry about progression though, since usually the XP system makes you catch up naturally...but that isn't the case if levelups are handed out by hand, unless Han jumpstarts levels somewhat to even things out. In any case, I hope this Bloodline is acceptable! If allowed, Rei will take the Major version.

EDIT: GameFAQS is dumb and broke the formatting. Intermediate and Minor bloodline progressions in my next post.

Level Intermediate

10 Demagogue Affinity +2
12 Bonus Feat*
14 +2 on Spot checks

20 Bonus Essentia

Level Minor
4 +2 on Diplomacy checks
8 Power Attack
12 Intelligence +1
16 Charm Person 1/day (sp)
20 Demagogue Affinity +2

One final note: While working on this bloodline, I tried to make the Soul Successor line something more or less every adventurer could take and not feel bad (instead of something powergamed for maximum Melee hax or whatever). Skill tricks, bonus skillpoints, exaltations as a capstone - none of this makes you significantly more powerful, but it DOES make you into a larger-than-life hero. I hope my bias towards building something I could use and enjoy didn't make the bloodline too powerful or unusable for a different character. :)
