I thought this was obviously all battle game, other wise there is no way you would say 3 Green Shells>red shell in a real race. Ghost probably goes to #2 as well on that, since now you can still the bolt, 3 mushroom, golden mushroom, or the star.

This is true, but there is no way one single banana is ever going to get you a point in the battle game. Where as a single block can alot, just over time.
