SRK forums informed me that those black bars we get in 3S GGPO covering the screen happen when one of us pushes buttons in between rounds. so long as we don't do that we should be good!
I guess I could've AIMed or PMed you but this is easier, and whoever else is reading this and has ever encountered this problem has a solution
