He says "Thank God you inherited your mother's brains." which...doesn't necessarily imply good personality. I mean, Percy was pretty smart.

(6)Vernon Dursley-14 (11)Madam Rosmerta- 5 Vernon looks decent heading into a villain match with Umbridge.
(3)Dolores Jane Umbridge-15 (14)Frank Longbottom-4 Not a fantastic performance. I'd take Rosmerta over Frank.
(7)Xenophilius Lovegood- 18 (10)Ariana Dumbledore There's the blowouts i've come to expect from this contest!
(2)Fred Weasley-18 (15)Padma Patil-1 I'm one of the (probably the only, actually) biggest Patil fanboys on this board and I don't get how padma got a single vote. I mean, I guess the actress is pretty.. but that's pretty much it.

I would too, but Harry Potter is a series where some fairly high profile characters will get some pretty consistent anti-votes.

Yes, well...they should become less common in round 2 once most of the complete scrubs have been cleared out (I swear, it feels like almost half the field in round one has zero lines, or is an epilogue-only character).

(1)Hermione Jean Granger- 20 (16)Charity Burbage-1 Burbage's only vote was an admitted pity vote.
(8)Godric Gryffindor- 18 (9)Lily Luna Potter-3 Battle of the characters with like 1 total line!
(5)Cho Chang-11 (12)Fang-10 I didn't vote yesterday and I would have voted for Fang. Oh well we missed a shot at our first tie. Still an exciting match!
(4)Ron Weasley-15 (13)Crookshanks -6 Dem ron haters
Aww yeah! We're getting a Ron vs Cho match. Battle of the trainwrecks! ^_^
And wow, Godric vs Lily Luna ended up way more one-sided in vote totals than it felt. Like...the votes ended up a bigger blowout than Ron vs Crookshanks O_O

Hey I already explained my vote was more Crookshanks love than Ronald hate. >_>
She's pretty much my favorite pet- the only one useful for more than delivery service and she's a helluva lot better than Trevor or Scabbers the useless runaways.

Umm...well, I'd probably default to Aragog because it has actual dialogue, but assuming that doesn't count...Pigwidgeon, I think? The indecent enthusiasm and sheer incompetence at doing basic things like eating owl treats without choking...it's enough to make Pig stand out a little at least. Buckbeak also gets some points for the Malfoy subplot and Sirius subplot. And yeah, Crookshanks is pretty good for the all-around competence.

i'm very unhappy Hermione, Ron, Neville and Bellatrix are all in the same division. That was the point i most strongly considered changing the bracket... Hermione and Neville are both top 5 characters in my opinion so that one sucks.
GenesisSaga posted... Pettigrew getting past Round 1 is so awful...
I think the better question is: how on earth did Rowena get a 6-seed? 11-seed for Pettigrew is about right. Lots of screentime, but also poorly executed, and someone who will draw anti-votes on top of that.
But like...I'm looking through the 16-seeds, and I think most of them would beat Rowena.
The Fat Lady? Probably. Rodolphous Lestrange? Probably not. Bagman? Probably. Charity Burbage? I honestly don't know. Winky? Probably. Kakaroff? Probably. Penelope Clearwater? I honestly don't know. Barty Crouch Jr? Hell yes. (WTF why is he a 16-seed?)

Yeah there's no way Barty Crouch Jr. should be anything less than an 8-seed. I actually prefer him to the man he was impersonating. I participated in the Save My, but not that early on I think. Had I been active and/or paying attention he would've got much farther.

(4)Dudley Dursley-16 (13)Gregory Goyle-4 Don't get the Goyle votes. Dursley is the same exact character but better and with more screentime.
GaryOak151 posted... Wow. Wow. Color me surprised. James Potter might not have been perfect but Firenze? I'm just sad we won't get a all-marauders match.
James is someone with almost no screen time, and the little screen time he does get tends to be quite negative.
OK sure...we have Hagrid and Sirius telling us how much Harry and James are the same person, but Hagrid's an idiot, and Sirius went a bit crazy in prison, so of course this turns out to be completely wrong. Whenever we actually see James in a real memory, the author beats us over the head with how different he is from Harry. He gets painted as a spoiled, snotty, bully.
So put him up against an uncharacteristically nice (for his race) character who has much more screen time, and he might lose.
As far as wanting an all-marauders match...Lupin/James might actually be a shutout if it happened, so we're not exactly missing much.

For what it's worth...most of them aren't much better than midcarders. They just don't get very much screen time.
This applies to literally everyone except Ron, Fred, and George (since Ginny has almost zero screen time outside of book 2 and book 6, and Percy also only has about two books where he gets significant screen time--and neither of those two dominate the books they're in. And characters who don't stay at Hogwarts get low screen time almost by definition).
Even then...Molly got a 22-0 shutout, Fred and George both had strong appearances, and almost no Weasleys have lost. (Percy and Charlie lost).

I happen to be a huge fan of Firenze and I'm not a fan of James at all, but I wasn't expecting that. Or was I? I dunno, I haven't looked at my predictions bracket more than once since this started and I have a feeling it's doing awful since I keep voting against the more obvious choices and possibly convincing others to do the same. Anyway, when James is grown he doesn't get much spotlight and his only characterization then is generic: brave, handsome... father. Not really much to work with really. He's a far more interesting character in his youth, but unfortunately being "interesting" means picking on one of my favorite characters seemingly unprovoked and generally looking like a bit of a douche. Since he was up against someone I like significantly more that was an easy choice for me.

(7)Helena Ravenclaw-15 (10)Albus Severus Potter-1 Second to last vote breaks a shut-out, which shows just how awful the epilogue only character are. Literally almost shut-out by Helena.
(2)Fleur Delacour-16 (15)Hugo Weasley People don't like Fleur, but epilogue onlys suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
what a awful half division. What I wouldn't give to send Neville or Ron here.
(1)Harry James Potter-19 (16)Penelope Clearwater-3 I expect awful troll votes from hobo but what is this
(8)Peeves- 14 (9)Blaise Zabini-7 the trend continues
(5)Andromeda Tonks-10 (12)Augusta Longbottom-12 I'm pretty sure everyone thought Andromeda was her daughter. Everyone who voted with explanations probably pushed the recognition and got Augusta the win.
(4)Bill Weasley-19 (13)Ted Tonks-3 Da tonks name factor

GaryOak151 posted... Black characters underachieve.
I'm not yet convinced it has anything to do with race. Angelina's not exactly a strong character and she probably suffered a bit from over-seeding. Her underperforming should really be no surprise to anyone. Peeves is definitely more of a prescence than Blaise. As someone who only likes Blaise due to personal bias, I can freely admit that I think. I expected the match to be a bit closer but I fully expected him to lose.
Lee's performance however was a bit of a shock. By all means he should've knocked his match out of the park. It should've been a near-shut out since Vish (with his wacky opinions) was the only known fan of that background background character. I mean Gabrielle isn't even so much as a character as she is a foil for her sister. After Harry rescues her from the lake she appears... what one more time at Fleur's wedding? And has no lines but a weak "Thank you/Merci" after being rescued. And this was worth four votes over the awesomeness that is Lee Jordan, who, along with Fred/George are the most prominent pranksters in Hogwarts history AND who later featured plot significance by becoming a member of La Resistánce in the last book? I've gotta call BS on that one
But I'm gonna wait for Kingsley Shacklebolt's (strongest black character by a mile) first match before ditching my coincidence goggles and donning my RacistFAQs propaganda.

GaryOak151 posted... Black characters underachieve.
For the record, I wasn't aware Blaise was black.
Actually, honestly, I don't really pay attention to physical descriptions of characters, unless they get repeated several times (like "Lee Jordan has dreadlocks" and "Ron has red hair and freckles, even paintings mock him about it"). Half the time I don't even realize when characters are black. (Certainly in Blaise's case my mental image was white).
In this case, if anything, I'd describe the situation as moreso "anti-votes against Peeves" than "Blaise underperforming". Peeves has about ten times as much screen time, and Blaise literally doesn't do anything (like...he has lines in one scene where he calls Ginny a blood traitor to save face, and that's about it). I mean, this is the guy who's in the sorting hat scene in book 1 because JKR wanted a Z-name to finish the scene, and then literally doesn't get mentioned for five consecutive books after that. And let's be honest: he only gets pulled out of the archive to be a slap in the face to Draco, and then promptly never gets mentioned again.

I don't know if I voted in that match, but I'm a totally irrational Gabrielle fan. I've used her image for an avatar on other forums. Probably would have voted for her. If anything you should accuse me of sexism not racism here, though--if I'm being completely honest, I would not have avatared Gabrielle if she was male, and hence would have no particular attachment to her.
Partially I don't think Lee is an especially strong character, though. In theory he makes mayhem with Fred and George, but we never actually see him at it. The only exception I can think of is when he levitates nifflers into Umbridge's office, and by the time it was revealed to be him I was kinda pissed at him for doing it. What else has he done? Brought a Tarantula to school? Frankly, less dangerous than an owl as a pet >_>. Most of his screen time actually comes from sportscasting, where he does show a fair bit of personality...mostly in commenting about asking out Angelina and being rejected, and in his obvious Gryffindor bias, and ridiculous fawning over Harry's Firebolt. Then again, Luna Lovegood sportscasts a single match, and immediately eclipses every single sportscast Lee has ever done. "Loser's Lurgy".
Although, sure, I'll agree that Lee is the objectively correct vote here, I nevertheless don't have an especially high opinion of him. For instance, I'm not sure who I'd vote between him and Angelina Johnson. (Two characters of the same race in the same year where I don't have a particular bias towards either and whom are mostly known for their Quidditch stuff).

Seriously, Lee's Quidditch commentary is usually a highpoint of any book. Usually comes at a point of otherwise uneventful schoolstuff too. Gabrielle has what five lines?
