I can't really see the point of a fiction character bracket, or non-videogame characters being included in a normal bracket.
Isn't thie a videogame site? I don't think people will care about friggin' batman or harry potter. I don't, anyway.
Also no, superman vs spiderman will NOT drive hundreds of thousands of people to a dying videogame site, sorry, the internet has changed and gamefaqs hasn't. I'm just here after like 3 years (my signature is a proof) because all of a sudden I became nostalgic for the contest but really, the average gamer couldn't care less.

While I don't think a contest that allows outside characters in will be quite as successful as some people think, I really don't see the harm in trying it.

I'd really like to settle in on a 2-contests-per-year cycle, with a traditional Character Battle (4-ways or 12-hour battles, doesn't matter) every year, and an "other" contest every year that can be experimental, even if it flops like Rivalry Rumble.

You'd have a point, but there are a ton of great video games based on existing fictional characters. Batman Arkham Asylum won many GotY awards for example, and how many great Star Wars games are out there?

I just think that the best case scenario would be that we replace a lot of fodder with better fodder. I don't think Batman would crack the Noble Nine or anything.

But again, I'm not at all against trying it out. My most desired contest is the much-maligned "Best Gaming Platform" contest, and then in second place would be Best Game Ever 3 with no era-defined divisions, but this proposed all-fictional-characters-allowed contest is probably #3 just for the novelty.

Analysis

What was a well debated match became rather quiet after last round. Red and Blue have shown that their strength was at an entirely different level while Samus and Ridley weren’t quite up to the task. If SFF takes a hold in this match we could see a huge blowout that may get people to think Red and Blue have a chance in the finals.

Breaking 60% against a pair that probably had decent rivalry power and were stronger showed just how much rivalry factors mean to the trainers. To put things into perspective the only opponent to have broken 60% on Ryu before last round was Cloud. Samus on the other hand has been struggling for the entire contest and couldn’t pull off a decent win last round where she needed it the most.

I still feel that Ryu and Ken would be able to defeat Samus and Ridley so that implication suggests Red and Blue could break 60% without too much trouble. It’s weird taking Samus to lose by more than she did against Link, but this contest has clearly showed us that this format is not like one on one.

This is only relevant if you think Samus = Samus vs Ridley. (and that Mario vs Bowser = Mario)

Samus vs Ridley is pretty clearly weaker than Samus

So, uh, I just saw those match pics. Those are pretty much the worst match pics the Trainers could have asked for, LMAO. I think Bacon was listening to those who considered RBY sprites unfair, because there's a heavy emphasis on FR/LG stuff.

Not that it matters, though. Seems like Samus/Ridley is far below Red/Blue's strength to begin with, so their pic advantages shouldn't have much of an effect.

I have no idea what to expect here. Could be a doubling, could be really close - I see Samus's ceiling nearly equal to Trainers' floor. I don't think Samus is weak though, if this is a pounding it's due to SFF and Mario being toast next round, and maybe Link or Cloud as well.

It will be closer than Ryu/Ken but still a comfortable win.
