Just played it for a couple hours with a friend who brought it over. Pretty fun, and it feels great to play. If first impressions are anything to go by I think this is going to be my favorite fighting game of this gen.

I played the demo earlier with friends, and I loved it. It just feels right. The main thing stopping me from buying it is the bad netcode, but I might get it regardless.

It just feels right.

Yeah I agree. The controls are responsive and I feel like I can do everything I'd want to do in a fighting game. To me it feels like the old good 2D arcade fighters, like ST, 3S, and CvS2. It's really nice to find something like that again.

I thought the demo was terrible. Not in terms of gameplay, but in terms of not even including Arcade Mode. You get the tutorial and one round of Versus and that's it.
...but seriously, I will consider getting it. I just wish my friends were more open to new fighting games I buy. Everyone online is pretty ridiculous, and I only want to get good at a game if I really love it.

I'm all for precision in a fighting game mind you, but there is something very frustrating about near-perfect inputs being pointlessly misinterpreted by the game.


That certainly isn't a deal breaker, though. Just something to keep in mind.

I didn't really notice this. Maybe they're talking about stuff that happens at higher level play? Things happened how I'd expect them to. Maybe these people are SF4 players!

I heard the same thing from high level KoF Players during one of the events that level up covered a couple weeks ago. But maybe it only because an issue at that level of play.

Here's the thing - at low and mid levels, KoF13 execution isn't significantly harder than SF4 execution, it's just hard in different ways. SF4 has a very link-based combo system - stuff like cr. lk, cr. lp, cr.mp xx special or whatever. KoF combos are almost exclusively cancel based. Command normals can be cancelled into from normals and serve as hit confirm extenders. So a typical KoF13 combo would be something like cl. fp xx command normal xx special, leading into a juggle or whatever. The timing for cancelling is a little tighter than in SF4, but not egregiously so.

At high levels, KoF combos can get really insane. The game comes with a nifty mission mode, where they basically set out combos and challenge you to do them. No big deal, every fighting game nowadays does that, right? Thing is, these combos can take more than twenty inputs. Most of them aren't truly practical, but they get you used to the kind of ridiculous stuff that's possible. Remember, this is a game in which pretty much everyone has at least one 100% damage combo (that usually takes 5 super stocks and a full HD bar).

Basically, the execution is as hard as you want it to be.

Game is amazing. I've been playing it with my friends like it's my religion since it came out. Once I get my new Hori VX-SA that is an Xmas gift so I can't have yet despite me ordering it myself (Seriously.) I'll be able to practice combos a bit more. They aren't really that hard. I honestly think the most annoying combo related thing is hit confirming, awkward timing after jump ins for the ground normal (seems earlier then every other fighting game), and some of the Drive mode combos can get insanely long with sometimes stupid series of inputs with tight spaces for each cancel.

Balance wise it's pretty good actually. Couple characters seem kinda weak compared to everyone else but it's pretty solid and most everyone is viable.

The best thing no one has talked about in this topic yet is the godlike color edit mode. Most characters already have sick default colors but you have 5 customized slots that goes pretty indepth. Premades are stuff like Robert looking like Dan, Sean, Terry, Ryo, etc Benimaru having Jax from MK, Zoro from One piece (This one is really dead on.), couple others, I managed to make Andy Bogard look exactly like Zato-1/Eddie from Guilty Gear (Which is how I feel he is tier wise. Which is the joke with my friends. Dude is hella buff but not broke)

i already knew i was going to buy it the moment they announced King was returning. made me mad she was omitted from the previous KoF. she's my favorite KoF fighter. And the game and mechanics are very solid and well done. Probably one of my favorite fighting games, along with UMvC 3

They straight buffed him outside of 2 nerfs. I think he's about the same. He was 3rd best in Arcade. Down D is still pretty strong but they buffed Elbow, BD target combo, Neomax, DM, and jump D. I think they slowed his Sweep down by 1 frame and slightly decreased the hitbox and made EX Kuuhadan not invincible anymore (This is fine because they made this change to all the EX Hurricane kicks. Kula was hit by this even harder)
