I live in Texas. I need to improve my Spanish. I'm at a place in my study where I need to focus on fluency above pretty much anything else. I've gotten a pretty good handle on how the overall system works; I just need to iron out the kinks and build my vocabulary. Also, it's supposedly a really good movie and my spazzy ginger friend <3 Guillermo del Toro and geeked out a little when we had a TA named Guillermo.

"when the princess came to the surface the sun blinded her and erased her memory"

sounds like the princess is making up excuses for herself why she can't remember her crazy little god-phase where she created the world

SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT, MMMMKAY? (but no future spoilers because I haven't seen the movie)

Okay, when Ofelia put the eye in the statue and the bug crawled out of there... I'm kind of wondering if that actually happened. I don't yet know whether the movie is supposed to take place in our world from Ofelia's (unrealistic) point of view, or whether the movie's world allows for things like bug-spawning statues. ~time will tell~

Mercedes's actress is really good so far.

When the doctor delivers the package to Mercedes, why is it a bad thing that Ofelia sees her? As far as I can tell, it looks like medicine for some guy's leg, right?

They're helping the rebels. Ofelia's new step-dad is fighting the rebels.

Oh, that makes sense. So Mercedes has some husband or something that is on the side opposite her employer? That sucks :(

Also Ofelia is quite a storyteller for, what, a 9-year-old? You'd think her mom would see that she's developed a talent for it from all her reading and encourage her to read even more.

Wow, the captain went from kind of a dick to full-blown villain. It's war, but you don't stab some guy's unarmed son to death in the face with a broken bottle because of a suspicion (that wound up being false) T__T

idl el fauno. Is that bad?
