I mean, "deserve" in quote marks obviously.
But if you support a bad MLB baseball team, it's kind of sucky for somebody to have to take gloating from, say, a Yankees fan, when he's pretty much just started supporting them because they won the World Series. I believe that every sports fan, to really mature as a fan and come to understand what's so great about rooting for a team, needs to go through a few years of really mediocre or awful teams. A lot of college football fans scoff at the smaller bowls, for instance, but after you go to every home game of an 0-12 team, you really gain a sense of perspective.
I can't really respect fans of teams that don't have the experience of watching a really bad team. I guess it's not really the fault of Yankees fans or any of those other perennially good teams that they don't have a concept of failure, but I still can't respect them. Even if it's a tradition long passed down through a family that does remember when the Yankees suck. But it's worst when it's someone who just wants to cling to a successful team. Those guys don't get it at all. ... Copied to Clipboard!

As a bandwagoner, you certainly don't experience the same highs as a die hard fan. It's worth it to go through the tough times because it makes winning a championship all that more rewarding and satisfying. When the Anaheim Ducks won the Stanely Cup in 2007 it was honestly one of the happiest moments of my life. I had tears running down my face when Teemu Selanne, my childhood idol and favourite player, finally lifted the Stanley Cup after all those years. Bandwagoners don't get those same experiences; they are shortchanging themselves.

From: StealThisSheen | #019 If by suddenly, you mean always. I have always freely admitted when people ask me why I like the teams I do on here that UK and the Yankees are my dads teams, so there is a damn good chance he bandwagoned the Yankees, like half the country back then when they had every great player in the majors, but I just follow them because he did. I'm a much bigger fan than he ever was though, both of UK (the dieest of all die hard) and the Yankees. -- From: Regaro_Ukiera | MWC is god-tier ... Copied to Clipboard!

From: BIGPUN9999 | #008 This is especially odd considering the game meant nothing to either team. The Giants' victory against the Jets meant the Eagles were out already, and win or lose the Cowboys would still need to beat the Giants next week (which they won't go my g-men). The game was entirely pointless, if anything losing was preferable for slightly increased draft prospects. -- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't really get the thrill of being a fan for a college team you have no ties to. It's fine to root for a team or even like one, but in this example someone yelling ROLL TIDE and they didn't go there.... what.
Professional teams are largely arbitrary and outside of GB, they would all gut out a region and move somewhere else if the owner could get a better break on a stadium deal, outside of the top 5 or so markets. And each and every owner would do it if they didn't have one of those teams period. -- where is mankriks wife ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm impressed that sports manage to have such a large audience when people are judgmental about why exactly you like the team you're a fan of. Who cares if they bandwagon? Does it diminish your enjoyment of the game any? Do they get a prize for supporting a winning team?

From: neonreap | #027 I think this is more regional reason if anything. States like Alabama, and Nebraska are both huge college football states, because they don't have anything else to go to. They have no professional teams, and because those schools are traditional powerhouses it obviously garners a lot of attention, because it acts as the professional sport in that state. This only holds true for a few select states and schools however. -- - ... Copied to Clipboard!
