The two for the Playstation are remakes of the Sega CD two, so either set of those. The GBA one is a terrible remake of the first one, so avoid that if necessary. There's also a PSP remake of the first one, I haven't tried that yet.
There's also Magic School Lunar/Lunar Walking School, which was for the Game Gear and Saturn but never released in the US.
And then there's Lunar: Dragon Song which is uhhhhh and I've never played that.
I am trying to determing whether I should shell out the money for the Lunar games, or actually play my Arc the Lad Collection that I bought like a decade ago.

Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete are definitely worth it.
Skip the rest, that's all you need.
When people say they love the Lunar series, they mean those two games (or at least the Sega CD originals those remakes are based on). Nothing else matters or is necessary to grasp the series.

I haven't played much of the Lunar series so I don't know much of the story
so when I say Dragon Song is one of the absolute worst games I've ever played, I'm not talking about the story or some crap, everything about it is atrociously god awful and mind bogglingly stupid
There's a pretty big change fairly early on in SSSC, but I'd argue it was better and they added some things to extend the length. It's better than the original in most ways.
Haven't personally played the original EB, though I'm aware of some changes. They seem to be much smaller than the previous game's.
