Well I can't say its a bad pick since I haven't played Dark Souls, but I really can't imagine it being better than Skyrim.

Depends on what you like about Skyrim. If your favorite thing is to get lost in the world it gives you, and the seemingly endless amount of things to do, and you find the combat adequate to your tastes, than you will probably like Skyrim more.
Not that Dark Souls doesn't have those things, they just aren't on quite the same scale. For me Dark Souls has the better atmosphere, but more importantly the combat is about a million times better. No game has ever matched the level of combat that Dark Souls has, which is the biggest reason I prefer it a lot more over Skyrim. Both have technical problems though, Skyrim is more abundant because of it's size, and DS has framedrops in certain areas. -- - ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yeah, for me I don't care about combat (hell, my tastes in gameplay is pretty "weird" since I'd take menu over action any day). I just love exploring stuff, doing quests, and experiencing an amazing world. Dark Souls to me just looks like one of those super hard action games and I don't like those, especially these days.

From what I've played DS felt very 'fresh' to me.

It's to please the hardcore nintendrones who would have a hissy-fit if it got below a 9. Gametrailers does this pretty often, giving a game a ton of criticism before releasing a final score that's well above the general tone of the review. Deus Ex got like an 8.6/8.7, yet most of the review was deconstructing the game big time. It's why content trumps score every single time. -- TheRock ~ Slow dramatic zoom-pan. Watching their Zelda review seemed fine to me, pretty much echoes everything I think about the game. The level design and gameplay are amazing(for the most part), while everything else I wasn't a fan of, and since I believe gameplay and design trumps everything else and are the most important aspect of the game, I'm not going to dock too many points off. While I wouldn't give a 9.1, it's a solid 8.5 for me.

See this? This is why numbers are f***ing stupid. You agree with almost everything they say. If you were to write a review, it would largely contain the same compliments and criticisms. Yet GT would give it a 9.1 and you'd give it 8.5. Same exact opinion, completely different number. But that's the inherent problem: the numbers are completely arbitrary. You have no idea how much weight is put into these issues from person to person. An 8 for someone is completely different from an 8 for someone else. Hence, unless everyone agrees to using the same scale, numbers are awful. If I ask someone if a game is good or not, I want a description and details, not a number. Categories described by words rather than numbers would make more sense IMO. Like, put a game into "Legendary", "Amazing", "Great", "Good", "Fair", "Poor", "Disastrous" categories. Since everything notable gets between a 6 and a 10 anyway, it woudn't hurt variety much, but would be more descriptive.
