From: StifledSilence | #199 But Sine is a dick. He was just the kind of dick that abused his power in ways some folks were amused by, as opposed to just being straight up mean.
so basically he was a regular guy with mod powers instead of a power hungry turd?
Which is exactly what Smurf said.

"intention doesn't matter? clearly your cashier degree did not require a law course." - ND to Joyrock on the legality of drinking a soda before paying
It's only a matter of time before you list yourself, Smurf. After all, posting pictures of your (then) underage sister for attention has GOT to have some influence on this board. That, and the fact that just about every "Top N" post you've ever done has gotten to 500 posts.
Ha! Now I really wish I posted yesterday because it was basically, "I doubt this, but I hope SineNomine shows up on this list."
And not soon after, he shows up. Excellent.
Up next..... ExThaNemesis could be higher, but he's the last name I thought of before Izzyzy and how I don't think hiding in the closet was influential enough to make it here... =(

I never rank myself for anything, it won't be any different. Sort of difficult to look at yourself impartially and all. ^^

I don't know I'll remember Smurf most for how he changed the perception of popular people on board 8. Mind you everyone thought he was insane at the time but that's hardly the point. It is also fun to see how Smurf's stock on the board rose dramatically over time after he started doing random nice things such as run contests. It was a good system.
Also I commend Smurf for trying doing this because I really never could and I've been here just as long. Like, I never really had a good grasp for what influenced this board. Like even Ulti who will surely be very high on this list I can't say to myself "yeah Ulti has been a big influence" because I can't name anyone who I think has influenced the board long term. It just all seems to bleed together for me.

Technically the Newcastle shirt was my brothers, I just claimed ownership of it when he left it behind going to college. I legitimately paid money for the Murphy Sunderland shirt. ^_^
And shockingly when you buy a shirt you're doing so either because you like the team or it looks nice. It really isn't on your mind what the rabble in the north of england think of your purchase. Rugby is the main game I support and follow, I don't have any strong loyalties to the club game in soccer. It's not difficult to understand.

Way to totally not get football.
Irish football fans for you.
If he really wanted to play up to a stereotype it should have been Celtic and whoever else.
tbf when your national league sucks balls you're always going to be somewhat of a neutral. It's hard to feel a strong passionate loyalty for teams in another country. I know ExTha manages it somehow but I've never really been able to do that and just wander my support to wherever I feel like.
The Celtic thing was more 90's than anything else, not coincidentally the fall of religion in Ireland has also seen a fall in people who care about Celtic. Soccer is only the 4th most popular sport here these days so the stereotype would be bandwagoning onto a different sport.

I've always thought there's been moments in board 8 where the userbase just shifted dramatically. It used to be during the contest season when the board was linked again and we actually had a chance to gain some new people, the change would be pretty pronounced then but the last few years has the rate of change has either slowed hugely that it "is" just all bleeding together or the place has stopped changing entirely. The last time I was an active poster was 2008 and I don't really notice any gigantic difference between then and now other than a lot more personal contact with voice/video.

From: nintendogirl1 | #223 You remember it however it makes you feel happiest. :)
I literally told XCarv everything that I was going to do in advance and the entire board got a fun evening out of it, so I'll take it as one of my 'dumber' moments I suppose.
Contrast that with a few of your 'finer' b8 moments there jack.

I was never a fan of sine, he always struck me as a pretty solid "what is wrong with gamefaqs mods" type. I didn't visit the board during the times of day/week when he was active so I don't know what he was like as a social board member.
Sine never really acted with the 'i am a mod and i should be a celebrity here because of such' mentality that people like error, raptor and ngirl tend to get at times.
he just was a celebrity because he would be heavily involved in shenanigans. Stuff like stickying random fad topics.

Always got the impression he had a bit of a moderator superstar front going on with board, he seemed a lot more sincere and maybe a bit shy when chatting to him directly. Not sure if that's accurate or not from the times I chatted to him but he didn't really match his board persona at all.
It's actually a misconception that we choose to pay attention to the jp, its an unfortunate necessity due to his weak gravitational pull. - makeyourchance on topics by the jp.
the jp was a guy who showed up on the board sometime around 2004 and didn't really make much of an impression at first. He was there and most people recognised the name but that was about it. It was at a later date that something so simple made a gigantic (pun unintended) impression. He posted a picture of himself. He was an extremely obese man basically.
This brought out the worst in board 8 and the jokes and heckling towards him became incessant, literally extending over years in virtually every topic he posted. Board 8 has always had this compulsion to recycle old jokes in topics from the relevant user (see: #1 Inviso), when those snippets happen to be on a sensitive matter its often led to a virtual breakdown of the user and an eventual exit. There's more of those examples later in the list but the jp is a particularly prominent one.
I was a bit split on the whole jp saga, on the one hand he was initially a really bad and annoying user and sometimes it's nice to see to see some board karma in that regard. On the other his main detractors (Makeyourchance, Sess and Explicit Content) were like a dog with a bone, the whole thing got a bit juvenile pretty quickly and it wasn't hard to feel sorry for the guy after a while. Having someone heckled or pestered off the board because they failed to deliver on an account closure promise or something of that nature I can get behind, doing it for no other reason than their weight seems like an elementary school kind of thing. Struck me as an episode where in retrospect the board came out looking poorly from.
Points of Impact
-> A hang up on Aeris to the point of obsession. -> Overly sensitive with a poor capacity to handle negative comments.
Notable Moment:
The unfortunate timing of his picture release coinciding with the board popularity of Katamari Damacy.
This list is hilarious. It really goes to show how the quality of the board in the last 5 years has sucked, since every single one of these users has been from 2006 or earlier.

I think it's more that it shows how rose-tinted Smurf's and your nostalgia goggles are.
