A 99-year-old Italian man is divorcing his 96-year-old wife after discovering that she conducted an affair in the 1940s, reports the Telegraph.

The couple have been together for 77 years, but time was no healer when the husband, referred to by Italian lawyers as Antonio C, found evidence of the affair while rummaging throw a chest of drawers. Having confronted his wife, who confessed to the affair, he is now seeking a divorce. ...

I feel bad for his being played a fool for almost eighty years, but, I mean, the 1940s...

it being a long time ago doesn't really change that the wound is fresh to him. if he had known about it since the 40s and just now divorced her over it, that would be one thing, but this isn't really that weird.

I would too. He just found out about it, he would have divorced her in the 40's if he knew then. Don't cheat once married, very simple.

good for him. Being married to a slut is not acceptable at any age. Now he has to DNA test all his kids to make sure his grandkids are actually his.

And do what, if they aren't? That seems way more trouble than it's worth and if I were one of his kids I'd be offended.

well, the kids might want to know if it is possible that he is not the father. I doubt at this point it would change how they feel about him, but it is still important as far as family medical history, and maybe they might want to learn about their actual father.

I'm not sure what you are implying. If someone raises you your entire life (his kids would probably be retired themselves given his age), you are not going to just stop considering them your father if you find out they are not a blood relative at that point unless you already hated the guy and wanted nothing to do with him to begin with.

That's a really naive way of looking at things.

Most people wouldn't disown their "father" over this, but most people would view them differently and stop seeing them as dad and start seeing them as some guy married to their mother who raised him because his real father wasn't in the picture.

And let's not even get started on how horrible it is to find that you're the product of an affair.

Not really true. I'm adopted and actually know my birthmother, and I consider my adopted parents absolute family--mom and dad. My birthmom, I call her Michelle, and while it's an interesting relationship beyond a friendship, it's not family.

You really can't see the difference between being adopted and finding out your father of however many years is of no relation to you whatsoever?

S*** man, you should get that checked.

First of all, censor bypass, you might want to edit your post (the mods are really cranky here).

Secondly, I don't think there is too much of a difference. Sure, it's a shock, but the person who raises you is the person you look to for motherly / fatherly advice. I'm sure there are kids out there who would freak out and see their non-blood-related parents differently, but I would at least hope that they make up the minority.

It's not like the situation changes at all. But, I do admit that my situation is different. I've grown up in an environment where blood is not thicker than water, so I'm a lot less blinded by the notion that blood-relation is all that matters and all that makes you family.

I thought GameFAQs considered it a censor bypass if you didn't censor every letter? I could have sworn. Maybe they used to back when I posted a lot more. Or maybe I'm just totally wrong, lol.

And yeah, I always wondered about quoting something that gets modded. I see modded messages get safely quoted on the NBA board a lot, but I always you could get modded, all the same. D'oh!

I find it hard to believe you'd cut off someone who you spent 77 years with for something 40 years ago, unless there was something else involved.

Which leads me to believe it's not the whole story.

The other end of the argument is...you're 99, what the **** do you care anymore? Probably gonna die before the divorce finishes, or the stress of it is going to hasten both your deaths anyways.

Different people will take the situation differently. Things won't stay exactly the same but if you've had a good relationship for 60+ years, being related or not might not matter that much. At the same time, the relationships could completely fall apart as well.

I thought GameFAQs considered it a censor bypass if you didn't censor every letter? I could have sworn. Maybe they used to back when I posted a lot more. Or maybe I'm just totally wrong, lol.

That used to be GameFAQs policy but it changed not too long ago.
