Sony needs to do something fast. 42K in week three mean the figures towards the end up January could be very embarrassing, and help to kill off any launch hype in the west. If I were in charge (lol), I'd announce a limited edition Vita + memory card + game bundle that would hopefully spur some early sales in western markets, and hold a press conference detailing what meaningful software is coming down the line (Bioshock? Monster Hunter? Call of Duty? Metal Gear Solid? Grand Theft Auto? ... Uncharted can't be the only decent brand that's lined up).
Oh yeah, XIII-2. I'll be picking that up, but not at release. I bet I can find it for half price within a month.
If the 3DS can keep its momentum going (and with its putative release schedule, it should), it could outsell the Gamecube's total worldwide sales in well under two years.

Who knew the Rivalry Rumble would be so predictable? SuperNiceDog, that's who.
It might have long term potential - whenever that thing is $200 with a game and memory stick included, it will sell pretty well. At the moment, though, it's in a bad spot.

Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
The market is more cautious these days than it was a decade ago. People want value and strong prospects that their investment is worthwhile, we saw that with the 3DS only really taking off after a pricedrop and the Mario games were rolled out. Low sales in the first few weeks wouldn't worry me too much with people being more willing to wait on buying a console until there's a selection of games they want for it now.

Honestly this continues to surprise me; the launch games look a lot better than the 3DS' at least. The only thing preventing me from considering it is the entry price, especially considering the extra costs with the memory stick and all. And combined with the fact that I already do have the 3DS and and plenty of games/downloads already invested with it and plenty of physical games to look forward to soon to already monopolize my time and it really becomes a matter of it suffering from this late start. I imagine we have a pretty even race in America at this point if the Vita came out at the same time as the 3DS.
