Firstly: Please no story spoilers beyond where I am in the game.
(I will post wild speculation that every character is Ganondorf, please do not confirm these)

Secondly: (Play style) My intent is to play with no walkthrough or FAQ, so please try to avoid any major spoilers about puzzles/boss strategies etc. I'm not shooting for 100% collection, in fact I'd rather not pick up all the heart pieces to keep the game a challenge. Also, I hear there is a 'master quest' style second game in which you like do half damage and take double damage or what have you; I plan to play that and get everything.

Thirdly: I will likely post some plot spoilers myself, so be forewarned if you haven't played the game (now that queen song is stuck in my head). I'll post my location and [Spoilers up to: Location] (or try to keep locations vague if the location is a spoiler (ex. that classic location in windwaker).

Fourthly: I declare this topic may have spoilers for the other Zelda Games. (Esp: Windwaker, OOT, LttP, Legend Of, Twilight Princess)

Part I [Spoilers up to the first Goron you meet]

Preamble (More like.. Pre-Ramble! Ha ha ha.)
So let me all tell you how excited I was to play this game. It's very. It took a lot of restraint to not just go out and buy the game, but I'd declared I'd wait for Christmas, because Ma' Jones wanted an easy pick for a gift so I told her this would work (I do not want or need many things, Christmas was Socks and Skyward Sword) But this topic isn't about the Jones Family Christmas, or my adventure to Michigan to spend part of the holiday with the gf's family, nor about the pride of lions we encountered. Nay.

Regardless, I picked up Skyrim before Skyward Sword, and decided playing that through would keep me occupied. And indeed it did. Excellent game. This topic also isn't about Skyrim, but that playthrough will certainly influence this one. (For example, the first time I met Groose, my thought was : I can't wait until this guy stops talking so I can murder him)

Wii Plus Motion Controller etc.
This is my first time using a motion plus. Or I guess a Wii Remote Plus (This is my 4th remote, up until now I've only had 3). I heard the swordplay maps to your motions fairly well and was thrilled; I fenced competitively for years and went on to use that for theatrical (stage and film) fight choreography throughout college. The swordplay does not disappoint. It's not "everything I could ever wish for" but it's on par with what I'd hoped for in matching to motion wise.

Also, this how to use the motion plus controller tutorial really isn't that bad. Nice work Nintendo.

Oh Snap! Intro!

We'll name me Link. Maybe the second playthrough my name can be Col. Butts.
Intro is nice, interesting different story. Very much reference to the Legend thing which I like. Also, is this the first time we're explicitly called "Humans" in a Zelda Game? I'm used to "Hylians" or like "Deku People" (Koroko? or something? I dunno, I hated Korok temple in Windwaker).

I like the spooky black mouth Lavos [Apparently Chrono-Trigger spoilers too!!!] monster as a first thread I see.

Annnd Gameplay. After Skyrim, I look around my room. What can I pick up? Can I read this book? Can I open this window shutter? Can I jump onto my table and kick everything to the floor? No!? Oh. Right. Zelda, isn't like that. Okay, I can handle this. Lets absorb the graphics for a bit. Pretty. We have a mix between Windwaker's cell shading and the realism of Twilight Princess (Links Face/Hair). Very Peter-Pan faced.

Oh right! The world! !! Zelda!? We immediately meet Zelda. Way to just get the ball rolling right away game. I appreciate that. Oh, and Zelda's Dad. A mix of the King of Red Lions and Ganondorf from Windwaker. Guys. Don't spoil this for me, but I'm pretty sure Zelda's Dad is Ganondorf.

Okay Confession: I played through this last night and Don't remember everything.

So I wander around. Swimming is really slow. I roll into some trees. I really hope catching bugs isn't that important. I find a waterfall. Oh **** there's my ****ing bird. Also I meet Groose and want to murder him Skyrim Style. Also, I accuse him of being Ganondorf quietly in my mind. Blah blah blah, I wish I had a sword. Oh, what's that? I can pick one up right away? Excellent! Thanks sword master. Horizontal Slash, Vertical Slash. Diagonal Slash (Down left to up Right is a little tricky?). Thrusts! (*****es love Thrusts (this was not meant to be dirty, but is being kept)).

Cool Cool. Sword play not bad. Lets go save my bird. Oh hey. It's Zelda. Apparently she wants to bone me or something. Let's proceed with rescuing my bird. He's trapped in a cave, I try to throw barrels at it, then I just cut some ropes and the bird is free. and we're...

Flying!

This is probably less annoying than boats in windwaker, but not by much.

Oh the golden bird carries the statue. This is Quiditch. Got it. Pass me the quaffle I'm gonna **** those hufflepuffs up. Oh wait. I'll just catch the bird. No problem. I'm the champion, Zelda wants me, gives me a sailcloth, pushes me off a tall tower. Classic first date. OOPS! I had the wiimote pointed up and just veer out of control. Lets try this again. and Again. there we go. I'm the greatest, those first two falls don't count.

Flying make out party. (Gentlemen: if you're ever on a date on flying birds and the princess is all coming on to you, spin your bird so you're flying upside down like Top Gun. Quick Smooch. Roll back to upright on the other side, and prepare to go into a dive to catch her heroically when she swoons and falls off her bird. Gentlemen: this is the most important advice I will ever offer.)

Tornado sucks up Zelda. Did anyone else notice the tornado is Brown, but the King calls it "Black?" This sounds like Ganondorf treachery to me, your Highness. (Also, I can just tell he also has strange dreams).

But it turns out, he just knows a prophecy. (And is Ganondorf).

But first, there is a ghost sword chick outside my room, lets go follow her. I fight some bats and blobs and a housecat does a lot of damage. (No surprise. A house cat generally beats a commoner in combat in the D&D 3.5 system.) This is embarrassing , i proceed, oh, hey, I'm the chosen one. Even though you just saw a cat wail on me. Nice. (Did anyone else struggle to realize the thing is a ledge and not a sailcloth puzzle? I keep wanting to fly around on the Sailcloth like a Deku Leaf. It doesn't seem to do that.)

Oh, Cool, the Mastersword. That was quick. Blah blah blah, Prophecy, Zelda is Spirit Maiden. I can't just stab the king even though I know he's Ganondorf. And.. my spirit guide is Lt. Commander Data. Awesome. Less annoying than Navi, less.. creepy spirit girl hitting on me than the thing in Twilight Princess.

And.. Emerald Tablet. Lets do it. (I predict a Ruby or Garnet tablet and a Sapphire or Amethyst tablet). Then I go shopping. And buy nothing. I really want some amber relics and to upgrade my shield, but that's enough of that.

I fly around a little. Go inside a giant pumpkin. Wreck a chandelier, eat a heart piece, become a soup courier, chop some bamboo with a fat nerd, and then dive through the sky to the surface. (Also at some point I learn night time is boring). "Hey lets jump in this big hole in the ground" "Oh, the inside is evil" "Release it's power?" Am I releasing evil, or releasing power on evil? Your syntax is ambiguous. Whatever, Dive ahead Link, you're about courage, not wisdom.

Oh, green smoke puffs and the oldest lady in the world. Okay, good enough. Lets go. Oh hey Goron, what up. And that was last night. Time to resume.

So, taking a break to let the dogs out and updating this thing.

1. Hide and Seek Zelda Guys? Really? This stuff again? Luckily, I found all but the last hedgehog by accident while wandering the forests.

2. Fi, I hate you so much. There are so many ****ing things on the screen beeping. "Talk to me!" "Dowse!" "Check your Gear!" "Check your Map!" I never want to dowse anything ever. I also do not like the fact that this stupid Fi thing at one point told me "No, we don't go that way yet" when I tried to climb a hill. If the game had put an obstacle there that just disappeared I would've been fine with being railroaded, but when you have the stupid sword ******** tell me I can't go in some direction I'm just gonna be unhappy.

3. So I've got a slingshot now, this is nice, I .. guess I have some feelings about that. I am more excited about balancing and swinging mechanics. I don't know why but that **** seems cool. Also, I sadly must confess I actually got killed by one of those stupid bush monsters. I keep trying to swing too late, and obviously I don't have a shield because... I dunno.. I broke it learning to use it and didn't get a new one I guess?

4. Before entering the temple I was at 297 rupees, so I decided to cut some grass, get some more, fly up to town and get myself 2 wallet upgrades, +1 pouch slot in a treasure chest, a bug net. a new shield. I then ran head first into some trees which is apparently a great way to quickly make 30 bucks, and I upgraded my shield. (I haven't used it yet, but it's been upgraded)

With my new large wallet I return to the surface and enter a temple. I like the new "Crystal falls apart and changes color" method of opening doors. The spider webs are kind of cool. The spiders however have done a ton of damage to me. I just slash and slash to spin them and fail and fail. and then sometimes my thrusts are slashes. (Gentlemen, let me advise you, never slash instead of thrusting). I continue exploring, somewhat annoyed by how slow swimming is, but enjoying the experience a great deal.

"Ah, classic" i say, A large round room, I'm sure a boss and an item are in there, an item i'm sure will cut down these hanging boxes I see. And behold: The Beetle and a Stalfos. Stalfos: Not bad, I quite enjoy how clear you make your target zones. I'm fairly accurate with what kind of swing I want at this point. Beetle: Love it.

The beetle reminds me of Spaceballs, flying into the motherships ear. [Spaceballs Spoilers? I guess?]

Oh sweet, Heart piece. That's +1 Heart. (1 from pumpkin chandelier, one from forest on a tree, one from forest temple, one from chest).

And I finally figure out to use spin attack to spin the spiders. Balls.

Back to it lads.

Oh, hey "rotate the letter h" puzzle. (awful). And Oh Hey Magus? OOO + overdramatic Harlequin (kefka much?)

May I just note: You don't look good without your robe on. Ghirahim? (Aghanim?) Is this guy the wizard who serves zelda's dad? (Zelda's dad is obviously still ganondorf).

Well. Time for my first boss Fight! Wooo!

Wait, that was awesome. Your silly outfit remains acceptable. The dark red and white color scheme is working well "Demon Lord"

Bouncing projectiles back, feints and disengages (reminds me of fighting sabres, i never really stood a chance unless i used foil style thinking), crazy teleports, very cool.

I used every pot in the room (I got slapped a lot when i decided to try shooting him with a beetle). I even checked to see if the door opened. Also, really fi, you ice skate? Did anyone read Checkerboard Nightmare? (Does anyone remember that comic? he had an ice skating muse).
Finally: Really fi, after that little cutscene you jump into my sword.. then jump right back out to talk again.. I hate you.

I love the beetle and will use it on everything ever.

Also, Zelda's dad has the giant eyebrows. He's in the redish motif. he's big. He has SPOOKY EYES (they're way too big round and white).

He has the same sash ganondorf has in Windwaker. I have no REAL basis for this, but I am calling him out as Ganondorf. If he isn't at the end of the game, I will rewrite the plot in my head such that he secretly is.

That thing's eyes remind me of:

Which supports: Secretly Ganondorf (As is the Owl. The Owl is a Ganondorf Clone Sleeper Agent)

SO! The playthrough: after beating jungle land I jump right into fire world. Mole people instead of gorons? Fine by me. Two of them have spunk at least. Not getting as much use of the beetle as i'd like, and upset that i need to murder baby seals, but whatever. If I have to kill some, I'll kill them all (there was one room where the seals were, at most, a mild inconvenience... I.. genocide... a little...).

There was a shiny orb that the beetle didn't work on. Also, this "pick up the 5 pieces of a key" thing is interesting. A lot of those areas are where I'd normally expect crummy secrets to be (Rupees, or.. *shudder* 'treasure maps') instead: key pieces. Not a bad mechanic. I of course "Explored" the on fire room. Ended up burning a fairy on that one. I hope they aren't super rare.

Current Gold Count: 750 or so Rupees (and no idea what to spend them on, but thank god for big wallets)

I'm enjoying raids on bokoblin camps... reminds me of Gerudo Valley a little. I expect I don't get a bow this early (i saw one shiny orb ...) but some things have indicated perhaps a hookshot is coming my way? (A fair number of targets around.)

Also: Digging Mitts: Kind of cool. I'd feared I'd need to fill all those holes with ****ing deku seeds or something. Instead: Dig for Treasure. I'm cool with that.

One question: When the digging-bear (i've named the mole people digging bears.) asks "Rupees" or "A way forward" when you get the claws. Did anyone pick rupees? Did I miss Rupees? (I assume you get the claws regardless... is this some sort of.. you get rupees and immediately spend them on the claws?)

I've saved with the key in hand right outside the door. Tomorrow is Mantoux Test, and TDAP, Flu, Varicella Vaccines. My arm will be sore and stiff, I'll be grumpy, and will wear comfortable clothes and play videogames. (I doubt it'll be that bad, it's just the first time I'm actually going to get vaccines of my own accord as an adult where like.. i actually pay etc. etc.)

I assumed that he gives you digging mitts when you ask for rupees so you can go dig some up, but I didn't actually select it.

So, Apparently it was the "Marble Madness Temple"? The fire temple was awful earthy.. (scratch that, reverse it)

Lizalfos? Not that bad, I find my biggest struggle was when i had to hit them low, since i played sitting getting an arm low enough just wasn't happening easily. Fairly short dungeon it seemed but a pretty long boss fight. (I'm finding boss fights have more HP it seems?) (Last I played was windwaker though, and my biggest criticism was the boss fights were too short and too few).

Sassy rat tail man really told me what's what though. Apparently I should spend less time rescuing the princess and more time not sucking at rescuing princesses? Who'd'a thunk.

Also. Really Fi? You're gonna do the same ice skating routine, start with the same first line, and jump in and out of my sword again. Go eat a balls. Worst. Thing.

I picked up two fairies in my two empty bottles. It's time to go do the thing that's next.. but first maybe I'll be able to upgrade this Beetle of mine.
