For the first time when Gaston was falling, I noticed where he fell. He fell into a river. A RIVER. From like... 200, maybe 300 feet up.
That's a VERY survivable fall. In fact, just last week a bungee jumper survived a 470 foot fall into a river full of crocodiles, and walked away from it. Someone in as good a physical shape as Gaston could easily survive that fall.
What a buzzkill that must have been.

Belle: *holding the detransformed Prince Adam close* Oh... I'm so glad you're safe. I love you so much... Adam: Belle... I- *gets stabbed in the back by Gaston* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGH! *dies* Belle: *gasps* Gaston! But...but...but how? Gaston: I fell into WATER. And no one survives a fall into the water like Gaston!

Last thing we need is potential direct to video sequels. ( yes I realize there's two of them but those take place within the timeline of Beauty and the Beast, so I can forgive those)

Believe it or not, they actually took this into consideration when they made the movie. When Gaston is falling, his face comes really close to the camera at one point. For two frames you can see skulls in his eyes, and Disney says this was their way of indicating his fate since the fall into the river could be survivable.

Ah, well played, Disney.
This makes that bungee accident video all the more awesome. It'd be like if Belle had fallen from twice the height Gaston did and walked away from it. Take that, Gaston!
