I think the problem with Bro/Dirk is that everyone had unreasonably high expectations for him. Everyone was expecting him to either be THE BADDEST DUDE or an extremely nerdy otaku stereotype, and either way he'd be Dave 2.0 and be so rad. Instead we got a character who was somewhere in between those extremes, which isn't bad but no way could it match expectations.
Conversely, everyone loves Roxy and pretty much nobody cared what Mom would be like until her first chat with Jane. She came out of nowhere!
Funnily enough Dirk was just like I expected him to be: a crazy hard dude who flash steps like the best and has an unusual fixation on puppet butt. But his dominant character trait seems to be the smart guy without much stock in anything.
I'll just wait until Dirk meets Dave. That should be something.

Yeah, basically, my issue with Dirk is that he's not interesting. He sounds like a boy who's desperately trying to act like a cool grownup, but just feels like a dork because he doesn't pull it off. He needs to go full serious or become funnier/badass ASAP. Like...look at the Autoresponder. It's a much more likeable character because he doesn't act like a poser who doesn't give a **** when it's patently obvious he does. He's so much more humane in spite of being a machine.
Incidentally, new guy rankings.
Jake>Roxy>AutoResponder>Jane>UU>Dirk
Jake is like a more adventurous John so obviously he tops the charts, Roxy is a ball of fun, AutoResponder is only slightly less cool than Dave and much better than his creator, Jane is boringly analytical and close-minded but I love her old-fashioned-ness when it comes up, UU is a plot device, and loldirk.
From: tereziWright | #460 I dunno, I really like Jane's spunky sleuth attitude!
I like her sleuthiness, her pluckiness, and her adorable quirks in writing. I really, really dislike her being a close-minded git, which brings her down considerably. Once she loses that she'll probably trail Roxy or tie the AutoResponder.
Jane mildly annoys me, and it's not just the closemindedness. I think it's that she's too cheerful and peppy without any redeeming features.
What do you mean by that? I wouldn't say she's super cheery (look at her very muted reaction to Poppop Crocker's statue for example). She's upbeat, but it's not really in-your-face and she's much less happy than John or Jade. Granted, both of them are better characters than she is for other reasons, but still!
UU is PLOT PLOT PLOT and doesn't do it very well, either. I expect it to be more interesting as Act 6 goes on, but not right now. Jane has her moments, but she's just kind of boring right now. Dirk and Jake are pretty close. Dirk does some cool things and I enjoy his pesterlogs! I'm just wondering where Hussie is going to take him. Jake is just straight up badass and awesome. Auto Responder is pretty damn great, enough said. Nobody expected Roxy to be awesome. And that just makes her all the more awesome. I swear, her conversations are up there along with Karkat's.

Rank 9, Dr. Peace? Pffft, nothing compared to Rank 1, Dr_Football! when thinking of Krystal, does GMUN's pants get overcrowded? ~ GMUN
TT: And anyway, it's too late for you to play "damage control" with me. My **** is in motion, and now we're beyond the pail. TT: Pretty sure it's pale. TT: Is it, now?
TT: I am seriously going to go into your program and remove that particular speech pattern from your routines. TT: It stopped being funny about two seconds after I coded it. TT: The compiler even flagged it with a warning. TT: "WARNING ON LINE WHATEVER: Dirk, this isn't ****ing funny."
And finally, Dirk starts being ****ing funny. He just HAD to do it with extra irony, eh? Put him above Jane now, just for that.
I swear everyone started out loving Dirk and now dislike him for some reason and I've gone totally the opposite. Based on Jake's first convo with AR I didn't really like Dirk much, but now I think he's great.

Because he was startingly unfunny. This last conversation has given me some hope.
I have a feeling AR is either mistaken or is in the process of an extremely drawn out ironic joke between him and Dirk about what is really going to happen with Jake and Dirk.
I feel like this is leading up to Dirk trying to stop Jake English from either creating, becoming, or allow the arrive of Lord English, and this is the thing they keep referring to.
This seems like the kind of misleading thing Hussie would pull.

No way we're on EoA6-2 yet. Remember in the Infinity Mechanism flash we saw clips of Roxy, Jake, and Dirk, and so far only Roxy's has come true. I think he'll at least introduce those other scenes before EoA, but who knows. Most likely we get another character switch to go to Jake. I doubt he'd get left out of an entire act. <_<
And yeah depending on how long this goes, it could last until 4/13, except I think it'd be more likely that Intermission 6-2 would end then, not the regular act.

This brings up something I've forgotten to mention. The kids all meeting up again is interesting and all, but I wonder how WV and John's reunion will be. I can only hope there are lots of fistbumps and impromptu car rides through the sky. I mean, it probably won't happen (especially with John still not knowing Vriska is dead) but a guy can dream, right?
