you are arguing that people wouldn't be arguing that brawl dumbed down melee if brawl came first. Do you really not see how moronic that is?

Even when making your argument sensical, that people would think Brawl's movement has more depth if it came first, it's wrong.
Every movement in Brawl is in Melee, except for the upsmash slide
and on top of that:
Melee has more variance in fall speed
Melee has more movement options in general with dashdancing and wavedashing
both which have more variance in their uses than the upsmash slide

Actually, their contributions were far more than one race track to MK7. After the DK assets, since Nintendo was way behind and wasn't going to make the release date, they were given the retro tracks to work on as well and did every single one of those.

As far as the Smash series goes... I definitely think Melee is better from an objective standpoint, but I prefer Brawl due to nostalgia. That might sound ass-backwards, since Melee is seven years older - but man, between the Dojo and all the good times I had Brawling with buds, I can't help but feel really nostalgic about Brawl.

Even setting nostalgia aside, though, I think Brawl is great on its own merits. Melee's fast-paced engine was more fun than Brawl's floatier one, but I still think its gameplay is really enjoyable. Plus, the soundtrack was amazing, the graphics were exceptional, and The Subspace Emissary is shockingly underrated. Really, my biggest problem with Brawl is the fact that they didn't add enough new characters. Just about everyone expected at least 40 characters, and we somehow ended up with 35. What the ****. >_>

I'm reminded for the first time in over a year that Smash Bros arguments are the worst arguments on B8 by a significant amount.

They better put Little Mac in the next Smash. I was amazed that he was only an assist trophy in Brawl, but since he's had a new game since then he's just GOTTA be in the next one.

the reason Brawl doesn't work for me is that it doesn't make sense conceptually

the design changes they made between the two games were supposed to encourage "casual" play or whatever, right? Tripping, removing stuff that could lead to advanced techniques, all that. But it doesn't really accomplish that. People who are good as Smash Bros are still good at it. It isn't like Mario Kart or Mario Party where my friends who don't play games much are still interested in playing. They might play a couple games but never more than that, at least in my experience.

So that leaves us with a game that is probably less suitable for high level competitive play with no tradeoff upside. It's worse for high level play and not exceptionally better at low level play.

Melee is awesome

I suck at it but I destroy my friends

I have one friend who plays like once a month with me for like 6 hours straight and I beat him all 100 times. Then he beats me once and he throws a celebratory party

This is not remotely true. Rock mentioned it first, and you started justifying why you hated it. I came in much later. I wasn't being whiny at all, I was simply voicing my opinion along with several others who did the same. You then proceeded to argue, while claiming not to want to.

You were the one who started the whole argument in response to Rock and HM. I merely responded. Please don't accuse me of things you did.

I loved Melee, and was rather disappointed with Brawl. So was my little brother, and he is completely casual, Smash being the closest he's ever gotten to playing a fighting game. Brawl is kinda all over the place, in Melee if I landed a hit, I could chase my opponent around and hit them some more. It doesn't really work like that in Brawl. Brawl is still fun, sure, but I got a lot less playtime out of it than I did out of Melee, because nobody around me likes it as much.

For the record, I never learned any specific combos, how to wavedash, etc.

I totally forgot why I came in here. The single greatest thing about Brawl was the hype (SSE was pretty fun as well actually). The Dojo, the rabble on the boards, even going to a midnight release. It was the greatest.

LMS, the way you're using two games to compare how games should look in two different years is flawed.

- Using one of the best looking games of the year is not you set a benchmark. For example, many other games of 2005 (TP was released in 2006 though btw) probably look much much worse than either Brawl or TP. Maybe it would even be more accurate to say that Twilight Princess looked like a 2008 game!

- You're not even considering the consoles. The Wii is not that much more powerful than the Gamecube, so naturally it's not going to look that much better. Again your example includes Twilight Princess, which probably remains one of the better looking games of that entire gen. And Brawl looking that good is a compliment.

- Let's not forget the Xbox 360 was released in 2005. This elegantly combines both points before. Why did you not compare Brawl to a 360 game, which for a "2005 game" looks far better than anything the Gamecube or Wii have to offer?

TP's graphics were slightly dated for even its time, let alone now. Besides, that dovetails nicely with the pattern followed by so many other games infamous for long delays (heck, people even complained that Banjo-Kazooie was superior to OOT in the graphics department).

I understand where you're coming from, as games like Metroid Prime and The Wind Waker still have better graphics than the vast majority of Wii games, but come on, am I supposed to believe that Mario Galaxy came out before Brawl?
