So yeah most of the time when we try to hang out he always lags and is usually 30 minutes to and hour late, last couple times he hasn't shown up for whatever reason. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I have my fair share of flake moments but maybe I'm only 5-10 minutes late for things but I see myself as a punctual person. I still consider him to be a friend, but it's just getting bad to me imo. I remember when his car broke down and needed a ride I dropped everything to help him because I wanted to be a good friend. I'm not really hurt by it but I think it's messed up. Am I in denial or should I just maintain a "distant" relationship with him?

are you saying you don't think he's a good person because he's bad at showing up to things on time?

You pretty much just described me. I like myself and don't see myself as a flake. I say continue to be his friend!

No it's just annoying because I hate making all these plans and preparations for whatever and then bam nothing happens.

I still think he's a good friend but maybe I should have take less initiative in trying to hang out with him and just play it by ear.

It depends. Do you mean:
-You two decide to do something and he constantly makes you wait 30 min - 1 hour without warning

-Hanging out in a group and he shows up 30-60 min later than everyone else.

If the first, just flat out mention it to him once. If the latter, whatever, unless he's constantly making the group late for stuff it's no big deal if he shows up late for hanging out.

I actually think this idea is pretty good. We appreciate playing things by ear.

Don't get me wrong, I feel bad when someone puts work into plans and I just don't feel like going or forget about it. It's just that I'm incredibly lazy and know my friends will quickly forgive me and say, "oh that's just Tyler being Tyler." Having a "plan" almost makes it feel like a chore in my mind.

It's a pretty strange way of thinking. I know.
