Ultra generic, boring, cover-based third person shooter with some decent environments gets GOTY awards everywhere with next to none of the hate most other bulls*** series like this get.
Most perplexing is that people seem to think that there's some kind of significant difference between the first game and the second even though they're pretty much the exact same f***ing thing with some slightly different settings. If anything, UC1 should be universally regarded as better because the brutal combos that actually made melee a potentially good choice got replaced by the dumbass HERP ISNT THE MASH CUTSCENE COOL FOR THE FIFTIETH TIME?!

I thought the first game was badly overrated. Not terrible, but each combat segment lasted WAY too long before you got to move onto a new area, and there wasn't enough parkour between fights.
UC2 vastly improved the shoot-to-explore ratio and upped the variety in environments to a degree where it deserves its reputation. Haven't played the third one yet though.
And I'm still not sure about Drake as a hero. It's like ND (wait... Naughty Dog, Nathan Drake. Huh. Never noticed that before) couldn't quite figure out how to do an antihero, so just made him an Indy expy who occasionally acts like a dick and is hinted to be sort-of-a-bad-guy every now and then while still apparently expecting the audience to like him despite/because of the fact he's not likeable. Just... bad character design at times.

ITopic title is pretty correct about it being overrated. Pretty much most good things about a video game are sacrificed for the being the interactive movie it wants to be (and succeeds at).
I find it hard to believe that one can find the first game to be terrible and the second to be amazing. Among Thieves just made some tweaks to the formula and to aesthetics plus added multiplayer. Drake's Fortune is a fine game and among the best on the PS3

You see, I found the endless drones of soldiers and complete lack of platforming to destroy the fun of UC1.
Like, the very beginning I really enjoyed - then as soon as you got a gun, every 5 steps 500 guys would swarm you, and since I'm not fond of the combat in the series it just left me wanting what had been teased at the beginning, all the while thinking "jesus christ this game is terrible", which made it even worse to me
UC2 had a much better mix, and while yeah the combat really wasn't that improved it at least didn't feel like it was just you standing in one spot as 500 guys swarmed you constantly, rinse and repeat until the game was over.

The jetski was the only thing I really didn't like in UC1. I just finished it for the first time 20 minutes ago and I enjoyed it. And if UC2 is significantly better I'm pretty excited. Just need to go back through UC1 to collect the few treasures I missed and I'll move on to marathon the other two.
There's just as much moving around in U1 as U2. Enemies are actually more aggressive in U1, and more interesting to fight against because they are more likely to come at you and dodge your shots. There are also multiple segments where you don't do any fighting in U1.
Also, the jetski was easy zone.

Never understood that complaint. You can one-shot almost every enemy in the game. You never have to deal with real bullet sponges like the ones U2 and U3 like to throw at you.

Calling Uncharted generic seems really outdated too. What game series is it similar to? Gears of War? On the basis they're third person shooters or something?

I've only played the first game so far, but I agree with this. I've got the other two sitting on the shelf waiting for me, so hopefully they're as good as most people say they are.

yeah there are but most of those segments are just getting out of areas where you just fought against enemies, only to land in the next area where you would again have to take out a huge wave of enemies. at some point I was really hoping there would be another segment like the one in the ruins at the start where you're just treasure hunting without getting interrupted by enemies all the time.
UC2 had plenty of those areas and on top of that it seemed like the waves of enemies were generally smaller. although there were some big fights in UC2 too, but because not every single room in the game was completely filled with enemies those encounters felt way better to me.
