So far tonight we've learned:

-> Nintendo Network is a full revamp of the online service (details not specified tmk)
-> No "extreme interruptions" in big title releases (aka we can just mail our wallets to Nintendo and be done)
-> They're "learned a bitter lesson from 3DS launch" and thus Wii U's will be much better
-> Possibility of purchasing full retail games via eShop (And whatever Wii U's online store will be called)
-> Brand new 2D Mario slated for release within the next fiscal year
-> 3rd party developers can set their own prices for digital downloads (which should make them happier and thus more willing to develop for Nintendo)
-> Wii U final product to be shown at this year's E3

and probably more I missed.

Been a great night! E3 should be amazing. I wonder how they'll fit everything into a 1 1/2 hour E3 conference... xD

Full list of reveals

Wii U:

User accounts: Wii U will have individual user accounts, rather than one system-wide account.
NFC: Near Field Communication ("touch" data transmission from accessories, credit cards, etc... sort of like QR/Streetpass combined) will be built-in.
Online: Miyamoto: "Network has to have a totally new concept to be different."

3DS:

NSMB 3DS announced: Planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year.
200 3DS titles in development.
Nintendo first-party DLC: Nintendo considering DLC for their own software, mentions "Super Mario" as an example:
"If a Super Mario user gets tired, we can then sell digital extras which will drive extra revenue, encourage higher communication amongst users, and possible increased satisfaction and hardware install bases."
More Swapnote-like apps? Because of the success of Swapnote, Nintendo is considering other strategies to benefit from this social behaviour.
"Path to profits is improve 3DS and focus on software. Super Mario titles will drive a lot of profitability."
60% of 3DS users have connected to the Internet; wants to expand digital offering, but at "infant stage" now.
Iwata: "Nintendo's priority is to satisfy existing 3DS users, as well as to prepare titles that will expand the user base combined with network."

General:

Third parties: Several new, previously unconsidered alliances/partnerships with third parties.
Communities: You haven't seen the last of them!
Retail title downloads: 3DS and Wii U both support digital download of retail titles, but... they still aren't quite sure how to implement it just yet.
Item billing: "We should not decline third parties if they want to offer item billing" (paying to unlock content).
DLC: Still planning to offer DLC (possibly talking about their own software), but needs more time to complete its feasibility study on the market and its needs.
More sharing: "Digital will include user to user communications and sharing" (More social networking integration? More Swapnote-like apps? More emphasis on Streetpass/Spotpass?).
Better-paced software + DLC: Nintendo has learnt that it shouldn't have stagnant periods between software launches: can fill the gap, and DLC can extend the life of a title.
Asia: Planning products for Asia, local partners (WiiQue U?) yet to be announced; still issues of copyright.
This will be Nintendo's worst financial year, but Iwata thinks the company can reach break-even on 3DS hardware in Q3 of this year.
Miyamoto still around, Iwata angry at Wired. "Miyamoto is saying his basic work is to create a big hit."

no problem with the controller

Allows for games to be played with traditional controls, plus something new in the touch screen which. All first-hand impressions say it's surprisingly comfortable so I don't see the problem!

Much better than having a wand as your standard controller

I'm still seeing

-joke controller, possibly slightly better than the wii but still not as good as the gamecube, N64, or SNES controller, it's basically an oversized DS, even though this is supposed to be a console...

-no news on first party games. is star fox going to continue being non-existent? is f-zero gone forever? are they going to continue allowing sakamoto to torpedo metroid into mediocrity? are future zelda games going to contain a mandatory walkthrough as SS did effectively turning the entire game into a tutorial for things you already know? are half of their dev teams going to be dedicated to gimmick shovelware again like they were with the wii? I understand that they're trying to get third parties more involved, but I'll believe it when I see it, very little faith in nintendo's first party efforts after the past decade and that's what really matters

-still no hard details on the online, people are just assuming it's going to be good?

this topic title is massively misleading, they're just taking their awful archetype from the DS/wii generation and bringing it out of the dark ages with things like DLC and digital distro, they're still not the company we loved between the NES-GCN generations.

Well, considering that I hate the 360 controller for being too clunky... I guess I would have a problem with that behemoth...

The controller is aight, it's not because there's a screen on there that it instantly become the worst thing ever.

If people say it's comfortable it's all that matters to me.

the fact that it has a screen is why it's so badly misshapen, and the screen isn't going to add a damn thing just like motion controls didn't add a damn thing, motion controls actually ruined most games!

There have only been 4 good first party controllers ever, and the Wii U will definitely not add to that.

I'd love to see Nintendo bust out a normal controller for normal games, and the remotes/touchpad for the gimmick stuff. Reggie said the Wii U was being made with people who make $60k in mind, $40 extra for a controller should be fine.

Is the fact that the Wii U is going to be backwards compatible going to help Wii game sales today?

The consumer buying Wii hardware today is going to be a different consumer than the one who will be buying Wii U in the future. This is the first holiday that the Wii is available at $149.99 or below, so its an expanded demographic we’re reaching. These are consumers who have heard about Wii for the past couple years, but at $199 or $249 it was economically out of their reach.

We haven’t announced pricing for Wii U, but you can definitely expect that pricing is going to be different and that the games are going to be different. We do believe that Wii and Wii U will coexist for some time. As we drive the install base of Wii, we’re really setting people up to take their gaming library and be able to transfer it over to Wii U.

it's not the $60k interview, but I think this is a better answer from Reggie. I like this.
