Yes it is.
I love and will defend the rest of the game's stage design to death (especially by series standards, as it's something the classic series has over it normally... MMX just gets the better boss fights!) but that one stage deserves unlimited rage. X8 has the best level designs in the series! They're almost all unique and memorable. You have to be kidding. MMX8 level design is the reason why that game wasn't that good. The game its more like a Mega Man Party than a real platformer. There is very little pure platforming, I mean you get 2 motorcycle stages, a contest stage with only minigames, a gravity manipulation stage, a survival battle elevator stage, etc... If only Capcom had used the controls of MMX8 and the level design of MMX7 then they would have get a good MMX game. ... Copied to Clipboard!

They already made this. It's called Mega Man ZX. Mega Man ZX was all right, I hated ZX Advent though. But every time they try to make Mega Man more "modern" they just f*** it up. I would love to see a new classic-style X game. I don't even like X4 very much, X1 and X2 are the only really good ones. I would also like to see a Mega Man 11. I'll never get tired of classic Mega Man. Sadly, I don't believe Capcom will ever make another Mega Man game. Mega Man is dead. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The minigame stage has platforming in between the minigames. Otherwise, well, sure, but I don't really see how this is a problem at all. Striving for variety in your stages is a good thing. I'm not sure what I think of the "Totally different controls" levels in general, though in practice I think Gigavolt's is awful and the ice one is surprisingly fun. No idea what your problem with gravity manipulation is, either. The minigames had very little platforing between each contest, heck, most of the stage is just a hallway, I'm not sure how you can mention that as an actual platforming. It's okay if you liked the snow stage but it doesn't change the fact that it detracts the platforming, I loathed the snow stage. Gravity manipulation has a lot of puzzles and detracts the platforming. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Several of the "hallways" have pits and walljumping to pull off, with one bit in particular having a nasty set of spikes to navigate as well. The minigames themselves involve platforming for the most part, too. In Antonion's level, the gravity manipulation is very much tied to platforming; it's far from just a puzzle. And the other stages... Burn Rooster's stage is pure platforming of a rather unique type, you're mostly moving downwards and need to keep the pace up. Earthrock Trilobyte's stage also has a timed feel as the mechaniloid chases you through much of it (and then you chase it in the second half, with optional rewards if you do a good job of it). Dark Mantis is platforming but with its own theme of not being spotted by searchlights. Bamboo Panadmonium's level is the only one that's quite straightforward, but even it has a memorable quirk of trying to figure out how to get the ride armour through the stage. Every stage in the game has its own feel and you can see the love put into them, I can remember details of them in a way I just can't most stages in the series. While I agree with you in that the level design of MMX8 is amazing, I think you're exaggerating to saying that Optic Sunflower stage has a lot of sections with pits and walljumping. IIRC only the last two "hallways" were like that and the rest of the stage don't have any obstacles at all. I still liked a lot that level though. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Hm, I can remember at least three? There's one which contains a secret you can walljump across to, and otherwise has some slightly tricky walljumps to climb upwards, there's a second which is kinda shaped like an inverted staircase on the ceiling where you have to airdash (or hover with Axl) to grab onto the sides of the staircase or fall to the pits below, and finally the nasty one with the spikes.
That might be it, granted. I can remember at least three no-risk hallways as well. -- The RPG Duelling League: www.rpgdl.com An unparalleled source for RPG information and discussion ... Copied to Clipboard!
