Cloud Nothings album has some good rock but is mostly too straightforward for my tastes. The track "No Sentiment" saves it.
Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend is a pretty, catchy dreampop album Chillwave? Dreamchill?
and I recommend The Boats - Ballads From the Research Department to Giggs. REally moody eclectic nighttime album. Alcest has a new one but it didn't do much for me on first listen...
my top ten of 2011 just because even though I'm late or w/e ... #2 was a huge surprise for me ... hell, so was #1
10. Portugal. The Man - In The Mountain In The Cloud 9. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 8. Protest The Hero - Scurrilous 7. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake 6. Lisa Hannigan - Passenger 5. Dessa - Castor, The Twin 4. The Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum 3. Fair To Midland - Arrows & Anchors 2. Ben Marwood - Outside There's A Curse 1. Larry and His Flask - All That We Know
I'm digging the Cloud Nothings album. I'm a little biased because the front man went to my somewhat tiny university in Cleveland, OH at the same time I did, and I actually recognize him though I never knew him personally. But it's been getting a lot of listens in the past couple weeks.
