Can't distinguish the direction sounds are coming from that, and sounds from the right are heavily muted.

Wat do? :(

Are you stick at all? I had what I thought was a normal cold at one point, and the next day my ears were clogged. Turns out the tube that connects your ear canal with your sinuses can get infected and pus will start to gather behind your ear drums.

Fun.

stop using headphones

plug up the ear with an earplug

go see a doctor. A GP should be able to tell you whether it's an infection, or whether you need a specialist.

Go to the doctor and have a pound of earwax removed.

Same thing happened to me. You can prevent it from happening again by running hot water from the shower into your ears.

I sadly have no insurance or money to pay for said doctor visit x.x

I've had my ears checked before, and had an issue with abnormally large buildups of earwax, so I'm going to try and get some stuff to clear that out, but this is an abnormally sudden change

Q-tip actually makes it worse if you're not careful, as it compacts the wax further. I had this problem a few times. Basically if it's wax, all they do at the doctor is flush it out for you. There's this Debrox stuff that I've used, basically softens it up enough so that you can flush it out with hot water. You can buy it over the counter I think. There's one that comes with a flusher, get that if you don't otherwise have one handy.

If it's not that, it's likely you have a Eustachian tube clog, which is usually caused by colds, and specifically blowing your nose too hard/sniffling too much. In that scenario you kind of just have to wait for it to drain, which could be a few days. That's setting aside the infection issue; I assume you are not in pain because you didn't mention it, so infection seems unlikely, but if it starts to hurt then antibiotics are the way to go.

I've had this problem for awhile, like the past year on and off. It's like I sleep on my ears wrong or something and then it's hard to hear. They don't hurt and I don't think it's wax. Occasionally huge pieces will fall out but it doesn't get better. My mom thinks it's because of a cold but it's been way too long with no results.

also, try taking a breath, hold mouth/nose and try to blow out your ears. kinda helps.

Is there no, like, Urgent Care clinics or other walk-in clinics around you? That's where I went when I didn't have insurance to take care of strep throat and when I sprained my ankle. They were quite quick, helpful, and effective. And pretty cheap too.

Do you have smaller ears? I know how it is, I don't get it much anymore but when I was in school and heavily active oh god did it drive me nuuuuuuuuts. Its nothing more than sinuses or earwax. I'd definitely see about buying some of liquid stuff that's supposed to eat it up. Its annoying when its in there doing its job but afterwords you'll feel like a new man. For real. I wanted to scratch the inside of my ear while it was being done because it itched like ****ing hell, but its worth in the end to let it do its job.

I've tried that for the last few days(Debrox) but to no avail. I'd let it sit in there for about 15 minutes then flush it out.

I had this same problem. Went to the doctor today for it, in fact.

They basically flushed out my ears with hot water with a syringe until the blockages came out.

It was pretty gross.

This happens to me every four months or so. I always used to go to the doctor until I realized I could just buy the washer he uses.

http://www.amazon.com/Elephant-Washer-Bottle-Doctor-Easy/dp/B005M2B5P0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328251100&sr=8-1

That's the exact one, and it's probably the smartest purchase I've ever made, I've saved at least $100 on co-pay already plus time going to the doctor. You just keep squirting room-temp water deep into your ear for about 5 minutes; you know you're doing it right if it's really loud and crackly, and when gross earwax starts coming out you know you're almost done. It's super easy compared to any other system I used to try to use (q-tips, simpler ear squirters...)

If you REALLY don't have the $25 for this, here's a strategy that used to work for me about 60% of the time. Get your index finger wet and stick it in your earhole rather high up and push it as hard as you can while moving it downward, then pulling out. You're trying to get a suction/sucking action, and a wet finger helps. If you get the motion right, you'll feel a pull deep in your ear, and soon wax will start coming out from deep inside. If you do it for about a half hour it might work, but it won't last long. You can also try using your thumb and moving from back to front. Whatever you do, the motion is a circle that goes inward and outward of the earhole.

Finally the last strategy that's worked a couple of times is to put your index finger *under* your ear, right behind your earlobe, and move it around, pushing and jiggling upward. It's not going to pull anything out of any tight spots, but it might move some wax around so that you can hear again for a while.

What you're describing happened to me once. It wound up being a torn eardrum. I didn't need special treatment or anything (it wound up healing on its own over time and I only took painkillers), but that excruciating headache will always haunt me.

Hang in there, man.

I hate to talk about worst case scenarios, but this happened to me.

I was diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Anything can cause it. To me it happened randomly and they never figured out what happened. Their best guess was an untreated virus attacked my auditory nerve and inflamed it, so soundwaves can't pass through my ear canal. I'm now legally deaf in my right ear with no chance of reversing it.

Within the first few days of it happening, you can have steroid injections through your eardrum to treat it, but the success rate isn't all that good. It didn't work for me.

My only advice is seek treatment immediately in case that is what you have, because the window for treatment is extremely short.

So she doesn't think it's an infection thankfully. She thinks its a combination of the stomach flu and an earwax buildup throwing off my equilibrium.
