It's actually pretty funny how they give the Wii so much crap and then imitate its gimmick in a way that's somehow worse than the so called inferior console. He's VERY wrong. Kinect is a completely different concept, Move resembles the lame wiimote more, but it actually uses a camera. Neither is the strong point of the respective consoles, they are just optional side accessories. Neither is forced upon the developers, laming up the games in result. The only thing they have in common is that they are motion controllers. Motion controllers have existed for over a decade (well before the wii was even conceived), and Sony researched on motion controls to be potentially used on consoles soon after they introduced the PSeye camera peripheral, again long before wii was even an idea. These are cold, hard facts and if you choose to ignore them, well, you must be living in an alternate reality. -- If you like Blitzball, try Captain Tsubasa II (in English) for NES! Nintendo were the first to try using motion controls in video games though, with the Power Glove. Hey it did terribly but it was still the first real attempt at incorportating motion controls so no Sony wasn't the first to came with this idea, far from that.
Besides that's not the point, the only reason Sony and Microsoft released the Move and the Kinect is because they saw how profitable it was because of the casual crowd, not because they just felt like it, they wanted a part of the casual money pie so they made those things and released them. Sure the technology they use are different but the basic idea is the same ''moving your body to interact with a game'', they copied the idea, not the peripheral. -- http://img.imgcake.com/cosplaygifer.gif http://img.imgcake.com/1327549040189jpgez.jpg ... From: Vlado | #032 Are motion controls really bad or is it that most devs use them in a way that doesn't feel good? Hmm? In a game like Super Mario Galaxy the motion controls were perfect because they were unobtrusive, a few hours into the game you'd stop noticing completely that you'd flick your wrist to spin. And the pointing at stars while flying through the air was nice because those acted kinda like loading screens so they gave you something to do while they were playing, it was optional, but a nice implementation of motion controls. And Skyward Sword, tons of people praised its motion controls because it made the game better, more immersive, and the combat more satisfying. It would've been an amazing game if it wasn't for the constant hand-holding but this is not the fault of motion controls. The real problem is that when a game only use motion controls in order to appeal to a certain crowd and not because the game is built around it it shows. Motion controls aren't bad, games that don't use them well are. Normal controls aren't bad either, games that don't use them well are. See? I care more about end results than baseless conjecture. It's been over 6 years that wii has existed and what are 90+% of the games on it? Pathetic shovelware. Sure, a few Nintendo games use it in a halfway decent way, but just about ALL of them could have done a better job with the classical, proven to work control method. Gamers have also been vastly disappointed with the wii in the last 3 years, even on a HEAVILY Nintendo-centric site like this where Link wins every contest. At the end, does it benefit the gamer? Nope. Does it benefit the industry? No, it harms it, as developer resources that could be spent making good games are spent making motion control shovelware. Therefore it's bad for gaming. And thank goodness that the top dogs soon found it all out and we still got amazing, beautiful, high-quality games on PC/PS3/360, while third parties have all but forgotten about the wii's existence. -- If you like Blitzball, try Captain Tsubasa II (in English) for NES!
