The story was adequate and the biggest complaints centered around the AI aspect of the game, but I had a friend to play the game with me and so it was a blast through and through.
And Leon is going to be in RE6, and everyone loves him, I'm pretty excited.
I'll go into this more when I get home, but Capcom has been trying their damnedest to please every subset of their fans so generally most fans find solace somewhere.
Revelations for the classic fans. ORC for the squad based combat fans. RE6 for the newage fans.
There have been some missteps though, but none big enough to call for Capcom's head.

There comes a point where they just have to realize they can't please everyone. Right now they are making games that sell well and who can blame them for that? I don't know anything about Revelations but RE6 looks pretty awesome just from what I've seen. RE5 was a bit of a let-off, but it's hard to come out with a game after you drop Resident Evil 4. Seriously, any developer would have a hard time re-inventing itself with one of the greatest games ever made and then living up to those expectations with the next game. I think RE5 might have been the best thing for RE6 in the way that the expectations will be a little more realistic.
I will be a little miffed if this is just Gears of War: Resident Evil though. RE4 proved that you can have your action without constantly pandering to the ADD video game generation though.

From: SSJSephirothGokuX123 | #005 Capcom can't screw up Resident Evil as much as Mega Man or their fighters, if they loose RE they loose their major income for the company.
Is RE really Capcom's main money draw now? That seems crazy to me.

Barely.
It is their highest selling series, but it's not beating Mega Man by much.
But yeah, with Revelations and the way RE6 seems to be shaping up, I think most RE fans are pretty happy, which is more than you can say for them a couple of years ago or for fans of any other Capcom franchise. And even then, nobody's got high hopes for Operation Raccoon City.

This is a good point, but I think if you can completely dissociate RE5 from any 'unfair' expectations it really is a solid game. Admittedly not having to put up with terrible AI effects how I feel about the game, but I just think all the elements of a quality RE game were there. (except zombies, lulz)
I can't think of an IP that they have that gets them more money. Mega Man's been on the decline for 10 or so years, and SF isn't as big as it used to be(although SF4 was decent).

Though this may have been pre-RE5, and with other high selling games coming out in the series (Revelations was a chart-topper) and nothing for Mega Man...
Yeah

there was a time when they were close earlier in the decade, sure. blame the battle network games for that since they were ridiculous sellers in japan. but re4 was a good 6 years ago.

I'm not happy with what they did with Mercenaries 3d. I loved the idea of game built around Mercenaries (probably my favorite mini game in any video game), but from what I've heard there's very little new content/content in general, and they sold it at full price. Pretty damn weak, and probably more shameless than Dead Rising: Off the Record.
No problems with anything they're currently doing, though!
I'm not too happy with the general direction they've taken the series. I'm guessing RE6 will be even heavier on the Western inspired gun-n-cover action (and lighter on the scares) than 5 was, which is why my expectations for that game are tepid. Not only have they shifted the gameplay too far from the series roots, but they've also shifted the focus onto Chris as the main guy. As the beefiest, most masculine, most "marine-like" of the four main RE protagonists, this makes sense for Capcom's new vision, but it's not that great for longtime fans. Chris was never nearly as popular as Leon or Jill, and Claire was also more popular back when she was kept relevant. At least Revelations looks quite good, so I'll be looking forward to that when it gets ported.
Also, Wesker is borked tier in a fighting game that's fun to watch. Guess I gotta thank em for that even though Jill is barf.

I've been pretty happy with the way things have been going. However, where RE4 might have been the perfect balance of horror and action, the RE series has been getting a little too action oriented lately. Revelations and RE6 seem to be turning the series around.
While I agree there is a trend to more action from RE4 on, I feel like the distinction between gameplay styles is way larger pre-RE4 to RE4 than anything since then.
So just being slightly more actiony than the game that actionified the series isn't a big deal to me, and I'll even embrace it if that's what they want.
Resident Evil's the series they have screwed up with the absolute least, and actually kept it pretty good. RE4 is amazing, RE5's coop kept it very fun, and the trio of different games coming out all look possibly good.
I wish they could repeat or improve on Monster Hunter Tri for wii. Which basically means make a freaking Monster Hunter game on consoles with good hitboxes and online, that's really all they have to do.
