I was reading a book written in 1979 about space colonization. In it, the author, who was I guessed a renowned scientist, said that when you're in space, occasionally you'll see flashes near by. From their understanding back then, this was caused by heavy primaries ionizing particles in space.
Is this true? He says that it happens every few minutes.
