This isn't sounding encouraging! There's gotta be some software to fix this somehow. It's better than when I was using the Motioninjoy drivers and I had to turn my analog sticks on in software every time I plugged the controller in but not by much!

I think in OoT/MM, D-Pad toggles the minimap. Don't quote me on that, though.

That was the L-Button. It was pretty annoying when you had a gameshark and were using the moon jump code.
