My computer doesn't always turn on when I hit the power button. Sometimes I'll hit the button and a couple minutes later everything starts up. But once it starts up, everything functions normally.

Is it safe to assume my power supply is fine and something else is wonky, or should I investigate the power supply as well?

my appreciation in advance to you people who know stuff about computers.

Has you're computer been running abnormally hot?

Not as far as I know. Also a weird thing is that this "won't turn on at first" only happens intermittently, and usually after it's been off for a few hours. If I turn it off then turn it back on a few minutes later, it starts up fine.

Than I don't know.

In my limited experience of faulty power supplies, the most noticeable indicator is the computer overheating.

Huh. Okay, thanks for trying anyway! I mainly ask because my video card has performed worse lately, but I also just bought a new monitor. I wanna narrow down the possible reasons. Gonna re-connect my old monitor soon and see if that has anything to do with it. It'd be cool if I just need to buy a fancier video card, I could live with that.

Do the fans start up at all? Is it just that it takes a while for the display to show up, or literally nothing happens at all?

Nothing happens at all. I'll hit the power button a good amount of times with no effect. Then leave it alone and like a minute or two later it'll turn on by itself.

Other useful info: the green LED on the back that tells me my computer is receiving power is always on, no weird issues with that. Also this has been happening for about six months, and I've dealt with it by usually leaving my computer on constantly. It only turns off if there's a power outage. And it's functioned pretty much normally during that time period.

Have you replaced any of the hardware recently? Just the monitor?

I mean, my best guess at this point would be to check and make sure the wire from the power switch to the motherboard is properly connected, it could be loose. If it's in there fine, it could be a problem with the switch itself, or it could be the motherboard.

Yeah just the monitor. Thanks, I'll check that and see. Figured I'd need to open up the computer eventually anyway.
