I've been pretty bored these days! I guess it would be something along the lines of rankings within each kingdom (Wei, Shu, Wu, Jin, Other) finished off by an overall Top 10.

I guess a short writeup for each character and possibly a mini-ranking of each character's costumes (DW3-7 plus DLC), though it is kind of a hassle to find pictures of some of the DLC outfits.

It would be based off the cast thus far in Dynasty Warriors 7XL, so those two random characters in DW3 won't be included.

Gauging interest, since I'd rather not start this project only to have HM pop in now and then with something like "Zhou Tai the best" and disappear!

Lu Xun gets points docked against him instantly for being one of the major guys involved in killing Guan Yu. And he wasn't THAT great in the first place thanks to being a kinda boring tactician! Certainly didn't know how to make a plan as entertaining as Cao Cao, Pang Tong, Zhuge Liang, or any of the Sima's.

Yeah I've pieced together stuff from random DW, Dynasty Tactics, and like 2 RotTK games. To be fair though, DW7's quizzes got me all sorts of useless knowledge about it.

And also made Liu Bei even more laughable.

Oh wait, you're basing this off only 7 and not within the series as a whole? While story mode was the best in that one, it loses major points for having the c*** tease of being released on 360 and then decided not to release Xtreme Legends for the console. Bad form, Koei.

EDIT: Also Guan Yu is a pompous ass and deserved his death.

I've only played 3 and 7 so this will by no means take the entire series into account. I have 6 on my pc though! I've been meaning to check it out, but eh.

The novel is fun, but you can obviously see that both the author and later editors had agendas in mind when writing it. There is a huge Shu bias, while casting Wei as the villains and marginalizing the best kingdom, Wu.

6 is really, really bad.

Like, 6 Empires kinda salvages it by being more fun (especially multiplayer), but 6 was a chore. Granted, 6 also influences my opinion of Liu Bei because almost EVERY shu officer's musou campaign revolves every map around making sure a suicidal, weak NPC Liu Bei does not kill himself as he moves around the map into enemies nonstop.

Seeing him on a map as a shu officer is a sense of dread even worse than Lu Bu appearing as an enemy.

Huang Gai is awesome, he's just too slow for me in the game. The dude volunteered to get flogged in public so he could realistically feign defection. Then he steered his "defection" boat full of explosives into a giant fleet while he jumped and swam off like a boss

From what I hear, he did that naked too.

And in DW7, he uses a huge four pronged boat anchor as a weapon and his musou attacks are all ridiculous wrestling moves. Total badass.

Alright, here's what I'll do:

As of now, I know barely anything about what actually happened, both in reality and in the novel--nearly all of my Three Kingdoms knowledge is based on some DW3 however many years ago and DW7/XL. Based on that knowledge, I will post rough rankings for each kingdom. No write ups or anything. Those rankings will be based entirely on how the games (again, some DW3 and mostly DW7) portrayed each character, mixed with some personal bias (which will be very evident from my #1 spot for Wei). As all of you go through your turns calling me and my lists stupid, I'll be reading up on some actual history for each character (provided they aren't fictional or completely useless outside of the game; I'm looking at you, Bao Sanniang), I will rerank the cast and post the new rankings one or two characters at a time. Things could change drastically, or they might stay mostly the same. Who knows.

I figure doing things this way will provide me with some motivation to actually do some looking up about the DW characters and the Three Kingdoms era.

I'm pretty excited to learn some crazy new details! For instance, I had no idea Huang Gai went through so much just to trick Wei!

How's that sound? Completely stupid? Good!

If anyone has any particularly good sites for what I hope to accomplish, it would be most appreciated!

Lian Shi doesn't even exist. She was put into the seventh game to add another female filler character.

EDIT: Sorry, she does exist, but not as a bodyguard or fighter. She is more useless then the Qiao sisters.

As a heads up, be prepared to be incredibly disappointed by historical Zhao Yun and Xiahou Dun after how hyped they are in the DW games.

And as a funny sidestory, you remember Zhao Yun saving Liu Shan that one time? From what I remember, the book says Liu Bei showed he cared more about Zhao Yun's life that he risked than Liu Shan by throwing Liu Shan to the ground.

So, if you ever needed a reason to know why Liu Shan's almost historically considered "special", there you go! Also shows what a great benevolent father Liu Bei was, throwing his baby to the ground.
