We didn't even have much time to get to know the Pine Grosbeak that came in a couple hours ago. I have a habit of getting really attached to animals that come in, especially if I've held and helped them out.
(What they look like)
It was amazingly beautiful, and had come in because of a window strike. I honestly didn't think it looked too bad but we could quickly tell it had internal bleeding, it was literally choking on its own blood and just after holding it for a few moments, Barb tried her best to help him (it had ruptured air sacs as well ._.) but finally the blood in his lungs and internal injuries were too much and I looked on as he slowly went limp.
It was my second time now, a few years ago holding a magpie that was euthanized. It's hard to imagine what kind of pain this little guy was going through and it quickly silenced my upbeat, happy attitude that I have while volunteering there as it's an amazing place. I just wish these things could be avoided, or at least, I wish we were able to save more lives than we do.

This reminds me of the time me and my friends found a baby gopher at school. We thought it was the coolest thing and then the landscapers came and impaled it with a spear thing.
We were PISSED. And Saddened :/

i held my hamster as it shook and slowly died in my hands and it was the most depressing thing that has ever happened to me so i can't even begin to imagine how horrible it is to see it happen twice

CommodoreTN posted... Yeah, try doing that on a daily basis with people.
I'm usually good until the families come in screaming and crying and passing out.
I'd never be able to do that. I can't deal with human blood and such and it'd just be too tough overall. I also just feel more emotionally connected to the wild animals that come in, I care about all of them and it's heartbreaking to hear an animal you cared for the last week didn't manage to pull through and recover =(
