Board 8 > Is DQ8 the only one that shows your characters during battle?

For some reason the pseudo-first person perspective from older games in the franchise has always instantly turned me off. Maybe I'm just weird.

That said, DQ8 is among my favorite RPGs, so I do want to give at least one of the other games a try.

I liked DQIX personally. I think it isn't quite as good as DQIV though.

I'd play either V VI or VII. All of them are fantastic.

You can see your characters in IX, but it's a drop in quality compared to 5-8.

There are basically different ways of obtaining skills. VI, VII and IX have job systems.

Saro is wrong that IX's gameplay is the best, but it's still fine.

8 was amazing, 9 was good but nowhere near as good as 8.

I can understand how not seeing your character can feel a bit shallow, but it's hard to actually feel like it makes much a difference.

The funny thing is, the 2D games actually have really impressive battle graphics when you take into account the monster animations in the later games and remakes.

DQIX had one of the best job systems I've seen in a game. I haven't played VI or VII, though, so I can't compare it to them.

8 is really misleading in that out of the 4 games in the series I've played so far it's just so much better.

On the fence about picking up 5 at that low price on Amazon.
