The description on Netflix was literally, "A car tire named Robert rolls through the desert Southwest using its strange psychic powers to blow up birds, bunnies, human beings and more."
Somebody explain the plot and purpose of Rubber because I have no intention of ever watching it but after watching the trailer awhile ago I've been left with this feeling that there's some deep meaning behind that tire and I must know what it is.

It's a tire. That explodes things. The movie just sort of expects you to roll with it. The purpose is "why the hell not?"
...And turns out the answer to that supposedly rhetoric question is "because it's boring."

This car tire in the desert comes to life and apparently has the ability to psychically destroy stuff. It follows this girl around and starts killing everyone.
The whole movie is basically a tribute to all the stuff in movies that has no reason for being/happening.

This.
You might enjoy yourself more with a couple of friends while drunk but we watched it sober and it was "alright." You're not missing out on anything if you don't watch it.

Rubber is an excellent film. I have no idea why everyone here is saying it is bad. It isn't a B movie, it is a very well made comedy film. Unlike a B movie, it has a budget and is made by a skilled filmmaker...and it isn't just about a tire killing people (though these parts are pretty awesome), it has other absurd and satirical elements.

I'm not going to argue about what is "actually" funny or not, but the entire movie is basically surreal humor, almost Dada in nature, and if you don't find that kind of absurd sort of humor funny then I can get not liking it. I have met a lot of people who tend to groan and say "that's stupid" to that kind of humor, which I have always not understood, but to each his own.
