Skee-Lo - I Wish
This is unfair. I love this song. Every line in this is a classic. The bouncing ball bassline is the cherry on top.

Hard In Da Paint
Freddie Gibbs - National Anthem (F*** the World)
I had never heard this guy before I listened to this song. God damn he can rap. And it's not bulls*** fast rap like Twista either - Freddie actually has something to say, and he sounds impassioned about his drug dealing past and his rise no matter his cadence. The beat is very pretty stuff too, but this is a rap showcase. This probably would have moved up a tier with a better chorus than the slightly atonal and cliched one-for-the-money thing in the song.

Rick Ross et al. - Maybach Music 3
This beat is grandiose and even has some jazz flavor to it with the trumpet lines, the bassline and the atmosphere around when Erykah Badu sings the chorus. One of the more compelling beats I've ever heard. Badu and Jadakiss are uncompelling but I prefer T.I. when he's rapping about himself being a flossy traveler, and Rick Ross brings it on his verse - the beat even morphs when he comes in, which is a nice touch. No, it's not that hood, but it's a very good track.

Big KRIT - Rotation
I love the chill beat on here. It adds an extra relaxed tone to the "rotatin my tires" thing. I think he's a better producer than a rapper but he makes his words ring true. He doesn't seem like a thug to me - just a guy happy to be living the life, with his girl, riding around - which on the one hand doesn't lend him the gravitas of, say, Waka but makes what he says a little more interesting and relatable.

Trap Muzik
T.I. - Hurt
That trumpet beat hits hard and so do the verses, especially T.I. and Busta. It's pretty one-dimensional, as a whole - it's not as much about the trap-or-die mentality as it is about just being violent in general - and the beat is a little bit convoluted and doesn't draw me in like a bunch of the beats on King. Solid stuff though. p.s. I had to find a link to the dirty music video because so much got edited out of yours.

i love mos as much as the next guy but he's definitely got one of those "one hot album every ten year averages"

and anyway he's a bit more of an abstract arty type these days than a traditional MC. not really directly comparable.
