Just read this article where Rush Limbaugh called a girl a slut for thinking she should be paid to have sex.

http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/rush-limbaugh-calls-law-student-a-slut-wanting-contraception-covered-health-insurance-religious-institutions-article-1.1031283?localLinksEnabled=false

I'm sure most would agree he's right, but I'm curious to see the few would say otherwise.

Not in the slightest.

Abortions should be covered situationally, but health care should only cover REQUIRED expenses. If you can't afford it, don't have sex. And really, if you can't afford condoms then you have more pressing issues.

Yup.

Although I'm now recalling that the birth control pill also helps deal with other physical issues, so there's that, but I couldn't say as to whether or not it's serious enough to justify even those cases getting paid for.

Thank you.

While I haven't followed this debate closely, from what I understand the problem here is that a decent amount of women use the pill for reasons other that birth control, but a lot of people just immediately jump to the fact that "loose women wants to be having so much sex they can't afford the condoms any more", which is essentially what Rush said and isn't even what they're trying to argue.

Mandating what private companies must and must not do is a tricky issue, but it seems to me that the argument has been oversimplified by terrible straw man arguments on the far right that obfuscate what this is truly about.

This isn't treatment though, at least not for the vast majority of cases. There is nothing wrong with the person.

My understanding is that it's still fairly uncommon to get the pill for physical treatments, and the majority of the time those issues are not anything that would require treatment.

Yes they should. We cover viagra and plastic surgery and all sorts of unnecessary procedures, why not cover birth control which has more practical applications too?

Plus it isnt like we're giving it away the way that a college nurse gives away condoms. This is basically just saying "hey if this woman goes to your hospital and is prescribed birth control you have to give it to her, and if youre a catholic institution, FINE her insurance has to pay for it elsewhere." This is why I hate the Republican Party. We really have nothing more pressing to discuss than female sexuality?

The Republican Party didn't bring it up. This is pure Obama.

EDIT: yes but no ones saying "ban viagra" not even the catholic church.

Who's saying ban contraceptives? Who? Are you even paying attention to what's going on, or are you making up s*** as you go along?

EDIT 2: We cover viagra and plastic surgery and all sorts of unnecessary procedures, why not cover birth control which has more practical applications too?

Plastic surgery is only covered in serious reconstructive cases, like after a radical mastectomy or to repair somebody's face after an accident. Viagra is for a dysfunction, and while I personally don't see the point I can understand from a medical biller's perspective that yes, there's a diagnosis to attach to this.

Birth control pills... did you watch Sandra Fluke's testimony? The one where she's saying that she's having so much sex she can't afford to pay for the contraceptives? That's what Limbaugh's comments were all about.

This is ALL politics. They hype up 99% pointless arguments like these, so that important things like going to war in Iran and inflation and people's rights are publicly ignored.

The real solution is that government shouldn't be giving employers 100% control over what to cover in health insurance, completely independent of free market/public concerns, and then getting MAD when the employers make a decision that not everyone is happy with.

How about you just give the control over to the people? Then they can just choose the plan that fits them the best. It's so simple, but no one even considers it, because the big politicians just frame it as a birth control problem, which is entirely superficial.

What, its true. We've entered an age where we need to stop thinking of reproduction as a right and view it more as a privilege. The runaway reproduction rate has been going on too long and is starting to take its toll on everyone's quality of life. There is a direct correlation between high population densities and depression.

Women (and men) who control their reproductive activities are lessening this present (and future) burden. Therefore this sort of behavior should be encouraged.

You know, I could actually support this if it weren't for the issue of it being massively more unfair to women than men by its very nature.

You are well beyond the bounds of reality if you think insurance covered birth control is the same thing as prostitution.

Insurance covers Lipitor; therefore they're paying people to eat McDonalds.
Insurance covers nicotine patches; therefore they're paying people to smoke.

Hurp durp. Joking or not this is a genuinely awful idea.

What, its true. We've entered an age where we need to stop thinking of reproduction as a right and view it more as a privilege. There is a direct correlation between high population densities and depression.

People just need to have children when they feel ready. Too often couples will just jump into having a kid without the funds necessary to support them (and in this day and age, children take a lot of funds to bring up well). Education helps reduce that problem significantly.

You do realize no one doesn't know that? And that that's an incredibly misguided approach to the issue at hand in that case, right?

In case you don't, let me put it this way, Let's pretend that's the only reason to fund birth control. What's a better use of money? Birth control for every woman not actively trying to conceive, or crime prevention and emergency abortions?
