Banal does rhyme with anal, yes.

I actually can't think of any words that rhyme with canal.

It's bah-nahl for banal isn't it?

Never actually heard the word used outside of writing but I coupled it with canal

Dictionary says banal can be pronounced either way, actually. I've always thought it rhymes with "anal" but I don't use the word like, ever.

I vote we compromise and start pronouncing 'anal' as 'ah-nahl'

Or is that to similar to annul...

Check if he likes some of the following (I will not list obvious movies such as "Milk").

-Pretty much anything directed by Pedro Almodóvar (I have met a lot of "foreigners", or should I say, non Spaniards, who know him).
-The Devil Wears Prada
-Shortbus (ok, this one is obvious, but it isn't anywhere near as mainstream as for example "Brokeback Mountain").
-Anything directed by Stephen Daldry (The Hours, Billy Elliot... if he does love "The Hours", there is a huge chance he is gay).
-Death Proof (at least, in real life it has been the case for me).
-The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
-Pink Flamingos.
-Musical movies (pay special attention to the likes of Moulin Rouge or Mamma Mia).
-Mean Girls (this one is a lock, I've never known a straight male who likes this person).
-Romance movies in general (this is not limited to "Titanic" or "The Notebook").
-Dumb comedies.

Well... I think that pretty much covers all possible "stereotypes".

Man, are gay dudes like really supposed to be into this stuff? I don't like any of these things. Someone trying to find out if I'm gay through this method would be swimming in an ocean of false negatives.

Let's see how it works for me...

-Who?
-It was good, Meryl Streep was awesome there.
-What?
-Who?
-What?
-I want to watch it ever since the Rocky Horror Glee episode.
-What?
-Aww hell yeah. I've only watched Mamma Mia though. >_> Does Disney movies count?
-Never watched it.
-Not really, they're usually really boring.
-...how is this stereotypical? But I somewhat like them, I guess.

I certainly do not like all of them, and neither do some other gay people I know, but there should be minimum two or three. This is mostly based on the experience I have about other gay guys taste, but then of course, hardly any of them fit the "geek" stereotype.

In my personal case, the ones I truly like are Death Proof, certain romance movies (hello there Love Actually) and a lot of Almodóvar movies

EDIT: Oh yes, talking about foreign movies... I forgot about"Y tu mamá también"
