I agree on that, I meant what team had the best defense he could conceivably end up on?

A relatively weak division helps too. First round Byes can go a long way.

God, if he can still play, and I think he can, I'd love to have him on the Seahawks. The Seahawks have a good defense, an awesome running game, an improving offensive line, give 'em a great QB and they're immediately contenders. I think it'd be a great spot for Peyton to go even if it's not really on peoples' radars.

The BEST spot for Peyton to go would probably be the 49ers but they're not interested for some dumb reason.

He can probably go to the Chiefs, Jets, Dolphins, Seachickens, and maybe one or more teams (not listing Houston because I don't think they'll get him) and they'll probably be super bowl contenders if the team stays healthy.

I hope this is not-serious.

I've been an Alex Smith fan since day 1. It's a real shame how the constantly fluctuating 49ers staff screwed him over the way it did. But now I have crazy respect for him sticking it out. He didn't have to do that and he proved that with stable coaching he can win games.

Yeah I think we should have beat the Giants (holy hell punt returns FTL) but despite not going all the way Smith did some serious work. That game against the Saints was amazing, absolutely amazing, and Smith carried us on his back at the end there.

The best place for him where he could feasibly land would be the 49ers. They are not interested in acquiring his services, though. At least, they're not interested with the money he's commanding on his current deal. If he becomes a free agent, they might be in on it, but I doubt it.

If we're talking like that, the best spot would without a doubt be the Ravens. But it has no chance of happening, just like Manning to the 49ers won't happen. Ravens already almost make it to the superbowl every year, now give them an actual quarterback? Yeah...

but neither of those will ever happen so I didn't list them.

Honestly?

Seattle and Denver. Or a team with a good QB already.

Seattle has a great defense that is on the field far too much, ditto with Denver.

Both have good runningbacks, denver has a good offensive line, Seattle has great WRs+TEs just no one to throw them the ball.

Both are in divisions they have a chance of winning even without Manning, they are both just held down by bad QB play.

49ers would still be a better spot than the Ravens, WRs notwithstanding. That being said, there's a far bigger chance of it happening to the 49ers than the Ravens. I think a questionable QB position is most important here, and though the 49ers are committed to Alex Smith, it's certainly a questionable position.

also saying great running game is lol worthy

Skittles can only play half of the season at the level of a good RB - and I stress the GOOD part. Not great, just good.

In his best season AND ALSO it being a contract year, he averaged 4.2 YPC. lol

With that said I do think they have the parts to compete so I listed them, but the whole "great defense, great running game" thing is laughable.

The support for Alex Smith is not being questioned here. Support for Smith has nothing to do with potentially upgrading the position. But this front office and these coaches will consider Manning if he becomes a free agent. I don't see it happening either, but it's not something that's firmly tipped in the opposite direction.

It just feels like it would be a PR nightmare for the Niners if they "traded up" at this point. And coming off of the surgeries I'm not even convinced that Manning could do a better job, especially with the team we have right now.

You couldn't just throw Aaron Rodgers onto any team and expect him to mesh as well as he does with his own offense in a single season.

I'm not convinced he could do a better job, either. My point is that the 49ers quarterback position is not set in stone, their support for Alex Smith is one of complacency and it is unwavering, save for in the face of a feasible upgrade. The spirit of this topic relies on Manning being healthy, playing at a high level enough to help these teams as much as they help him. In that instance, the 49ers are a possibility.

As a reporter, I certainly hope they're linked for the page views. :] As a fan, I'm not keen on the idea at all. I doubt Manning will play in 2012.

Peyton could probably turn any team other than the Rams into a Playoff caliber team.

The Jets may be the best shot at him winning a Super Bowl. At least of the teams that probably won't sit their current QB for Manning (regardless of skill level)

Arizona, easily.

Up and coming defense, amazing special teams play(Patrick Peterson). Best WR in the league, a running game that is getting better. Solid TE play, a coach that will let him do what he wants. Dome, nice weather.

OL is a tad shaky at times however.

Yeah, true. I don't think the Colts ever had a top running game did they? Even with James(Well, at the very least their running game has never been the same since James left). In a lot of ways their OL and running game pretty much mimics the Cardinals, but the Cardinals have actually improved the past 2 years.

Manning can pretty much just play the Warner role, but this time around their defense will probably be infinitely superior(even though that Cardinal team did step up its defense in that playoff run).

Man, I want the Chiefs to pick him up so bad.

We've got a good receiving corps in Bowe, Breaston, and Baldwin. Our defense is outstanding most of the time. If our offense could just move the ball last year, we win so many of those games we lost (Pittsburgh, Denver, etc.). Just imagine what they could do when the offense scores most of the time. We're in the most average division in the league. I hate looking back and knowing we only lost that division because of three huge injuries. With our whole team back, I can't imagine any of the Broncos, Chargers, or Raiders giving us much trouble as it is, let alone with a top 3 QB. And the Chiefs have more than $35 million to spend in free agency this year. Landing him requires nothing more than money, which we have in truckloads.

What's wrong with Crennel? It's not like Peyton has anything else to learn in his career. Unlike Haley, he's a coach that the team respects and gives 100% for. Our game against Green Bay last year is really all you need to see that.

Considering he's had 4 games of experience at it, at a time he didn't expect to be thrown into that situation, he's only going to get better at it. Crennel isn't a narcissist, or easily satisfied by the job he's done. I'm sure he's spent a lot of time this offseason looking over tape and working on his duties.

Besides, if Tom Coughlin is the face of great timeout/challenge management, after watching a bunch of his games last year, I don't think I want that. >__>
