xiii-2 is great. the plot is abysmal but the rest of the game manages something that xiii just never seemed to get right.

I hated xiii but xiii-2 was so good that it almost convinced me to replay it!

Everything I've heard about the gameplay has been stellar and that it improved upon XIII's system. Everything I've heard about the plot is terrible. I haven't played it so >__>

I don't know why I even asked people to rank those games considering I think all three of X-2, XIII and XII are about as good as one another. A better question would be if you're one of those weirdos who think any of those 3 are anywhere near as good as VI-X to know whether your opinion is worth disregarding or not!

It's pretty great. It's not flawless, but it basically fixes everything that annoyed me about XIII. I just hope SE releases a hard mode DLC sometime in the future. Game is really easy, but the gameplay is mad fun. Except during one or arguably two parts, which just suck.

For the record, I did like XIII as well, probably a 7-8/10 game imo. XII is trash though.

Edit: Might not be 100% clear, so I'll reiterate: I'd give XIII a 7-8/10 and XIII-2 a 9/10

I thought FF13-2 was decent, though a clear step back from 13. I couldn't get through X-2 or 12 on the other hand.

and that was after 4 or 5 tries omfg

This isn't a patch or a remake, it doesn't really "get" to fix what was wrong with XIII and its supposed to be a standalone game set in the universe of XIII. Some of the stuff I've heard about it makes me worry that this is the same game with a different story and a bunch of fixes aimed at the complaints. Does it actually feel like a fresh experience in the same way X-2 did?

I had the same fears. I was afraid the game would basically be Square looking at a checklist of complaints about FFXIII and shallowly "fixing" them in an attempt to make a decent game. The overall product does sort of feel like that, but the game still manages to compel you keep playing in a way that the older FFs did (and XIII never seemed capable of accomplishing). It's still got a few flaws, but I really liked it overall.
