Yes, there's a good amount of overly long tutorials at parts. There's also quite a few really cool parts of it. In fact, most of the plot stuff is actually pretty damn good. Following Fi through Skyloft in the night for the first time is probably my favorite part of the game.
This is shorter than I'd like it to be, but I guess I just really don't get how you could hate the whole intro for what's ultimately a small part of it.

The hand-holding does get better later on (and Fi interrupts gameplay less), but there's really no excuse for the inability to speed through text, especially when you've already read it. There's also no excuse for not streamlining the earlier tutorial bits on Hero Mode.

It's actually one of my favorite Zelda intros and I had a lot of fun with it. Yes, Fi interruptions are a moodkiller, but it's expected early on. When she's doing the same things late rin the game, she becomes easily the worst Zelda partner ever, but early on she's acceptable.
Also, great cast of characters to interact with.
