Despite what JaKyL said, the non-gate revenue from the event is going to be terrible because of ROH looking like such a low-rent company. Further proof vanilla midgets can't draw.

John Cena says a lot of things in character at moments you'd expect him to be out of character.

I'm pretty sure he's friends with a lot of the heels.

It's kind of admirable what Cena's trying to do there, actually. This whole reality era thing is basically an attempt to "make wrestling real" again, so he seems to be trying to get on board with that by making people believe that today's heels are genuinely bad people backstage.

He just doesn't seem to understand that coming right out and claiming it is not going to make people believe it.

I do happen to like fireballs and zombies in my wrestling.

But we have the only living, breathing, romping-stomping Funkasaurus in captivity making appearances, and he debuted long after the start of the Reality Era, so clearly the "make wrestling real" initiative isn't putting an end to that.

Funny, part of me thinks Dolph would be more of a shot in the pre-reality era.

I mean, considering how many times they pushed Billy Gunn, and Dolph Ziggler has the same look and way more talent, I bet they'd look at Ziggler and go "He's got it."

Yeah, as hilarious and over the top as the Funkasaurus is, he isn't pretending to be a dinosaur. Though to be fair, we did get Kane trying to drag Ryder into hell just a few months ago. And that was amazingly cheesy in the best way possible. It was exactly the kind of thing I watch wrestling for. My only complaint about that feud is that we didn't have Ryder burning Cena's shirt to gain his powers in some sort of ironic twist to face Kane at Wrestlemania.

Also, on the topic of Ryder and Ziggler...

That's just it, though. This isn't "making wrestling real" the way you're used to. Think about how you thought Cena was actually claiming you have to be an actual bad guy to be a bad guy. How some people thought The Rock was legitimately angry after Cena claimed he reads off a script. That stuff isn't convincing children or "idiots," it's for making today's educated-fans believe. To make them believe there's actual animosity between these people. Everyone knows they're playing a character, but when you hear one wrestler say something about another that sounds like it could be their subtle attempt to take a shot at "Paul Lavesque" instead of "Triple H," dirtsheet-hungry fans will lap that stuff up. That's how they want to make it real.

Yeah but the thing is, I personally don't give a damn about "Paul Lavesque." I don't know this Paul person. I know Triple H, the character I watch on TV. Two actors being passive aggressive to each other isn't going to make the scene any more entertaining, it's just going to screw up the product for me.

I get that I'm probably in the minority in this, but I really don't care about this new kayfabe they are trying to make.

Except that stuff doesn't work at all with me. I don't believe that The Rock actually hates Cena. I don't think they're best buds, obviously, but I never bought for a second that "oh, this is legit animosity." When Austin and Rock went at it, I knew that those guys were friends backstage, but they weren't pretentious enough to make it sound like "Oh, we hate each other" via backstage politics and stuff.

Though to be fair, we did get Kane trying to drag Ryder into hell just a few months ago. And that was amazingly cheesy in the best way possible. It was exactly the kind of thing I watch wrestling for.

Same here, which is why the reality era can kiss my ass. I'd rather watch something like that then "OMG you kiss so much ass backstage thats the only reason why youre a top guy"

That's actually why I was drawn to Cody when I started watching again

Even with people like Ziggler who have all the mannerisms down...it essentially boils down to "oh hey look I'm arrogant". Cody has a proper gimmick.

This is also probably why R-Truth became so popular once he turned (and even as a face, - the "little jimmy" character works either way).
