And people are raised knowing this, and it allows them to point it out time and time again, and use it as an excuse for not moving past emotional trauma. It sounds cold how I'm wording it, but it's true. Our society does take sex rather too seriously at times, but that doesn't mean dismissing the troubles of sexual abuse is a wise thing. You say that what you say is "ture", but how do you know for sure? Even if (God forbid) you were abused as a child and you somehow got over it, your experience does not speak for the experiences of well... anyone else really. Sexually abuse has been proven to mess people up. Some people more than others of course. The fact is, there are so many things in the world that cause "emotional trauma", and we are glorifying sex so much to the point, where it's the "ultimate abuse". But what about people who are bullied at school at a young age? People who are constantly spanked by their parents? People who were cheated on in a relationship? People who were drafted into military and forced to kill and watch others die? People who got mugged? People who have had their house broken in to? I could keep going on. All of these things would cause emotional trauma, but the one that involves sex is considered the worse. Why? Because it's what we were told when we were young. It's the level of emotional trauma. Bullying is a coin flip. Minor bullying won't do too much usually, but major bullying can lead into depression, which can lead to murder and/or suicide. Being spanked tends to not cause any major problems, unless the spanking was barbaric(as in you beat your child with a pipe or something). But anyway, you seem to be making a common logical fallacy. That is, "If something worse can happen, then this other thing isn't a big deal". Yes there are worse things than sexual abuse, but that doesn't mean sexual abuse isn't a major thing. But the US is the same country that constantly has people saying stuff like "Can I watch Rambo with my child, or are there any sex scenes in it?" Not everyone agrees with that. Also let's not forget the countries that would have a child watch a pornographic movie, but heaven forbid they see someone punch someone else! I think I see your point, you're just wording it very badly. And/Or using it in the wrong context. You're saying that things shouldn't be super taboo just because sex is involved. It's not brainwashing, or hivemind, that's just how it is. I'm no expert on the matter. 2. Crimes against a child are considered far more seriously against crimes against an adult. Children are innocent, children are powerless, that's how many people feel about children(small children anyway, teenagers are borderline). Hell I'm the same way. Abuse an innocent man or woman and I feel that you should go to jail for that, but abuse a child and I want to beat you to an inch of your life myself before calling the cops(Keep in mind what I want to do and what I'd do aren't the same by default) Combine the two?
